Is Stitch's Great Escape really as bad people have been saying? Should we skip it?

Me and my wife are going to disney world in december.. we are taking our moms who have never been there before. Anyway, we wanted to make this trip very special and didn't want to do any disapointing rides as its their first time in wdw.

My wife loves stitch... and wanted to go on the ride but we read only bad things about it.

Is it really as bad as people are making it sound? Would it ruin my wife's love of stitch? Would it ruin our moms first impression of walt disney world? Hmm.. I'm not sure if we should do this ride.

The best advice I could give you would be to try and do it towards the end of your day at the MK. That way if you miss it, you will have seen everything else at the MK and if you do get to see it at the end of the day, it would be gravy. Of course, if you have a couple of days at the MK, then there is no reason to skip the attraction (Except for special circumstances ;) ).

Don't waste your time, if the line is less than 15 minutes, give it a shot, otherwise, spend your time elsewhere!!!
I agree, If there is a short wait, go ahead, but if its long, don't bother wasting a fastpass for it, its not worth it.

Give it a shot if the wait is not bad and then you'll know. I waited over an hour for it because it broke down right when I got in the queue and I would have rather done other things.

I'm not planning to ride it on this upcoming trip - just wasn't worth my while - especially since we have to do the baby swap which means the wait is twice as long for us.

For me it was comparable to the new Shrek attraction at Universal - just a show with strange special effects and not worth waiting any amount of time for.

We saw the show in June. It is NOT as bad as you read here.

Many people think it suffers in comparison with Alien Encounter, the attraction it replaced. This is true from one point of view. AE was considered too intense for many children, who went on the ride despite the warnings. (The intensity and dark tone that was different for Disney was what appealed to many people.)

Stitch is very similar in terms of show elements, but is not as dark or intense. It does include bathroom humer (burping a hot dog). But no, it is not as bad as you read here.

and no, it will not be the highlight of your trip, even for your wife who likes Stitch.

Go if there is a little/no wait. I'm sure Stitch fans would enjoy it. I waited about an hour to see it and was a bit disappointed that I waited so long for such a mediocre show.

SGE isn't a must-see, the way it's predecessor was, and you probably won't leave the park talking to eachother about it as the highlight of the day. However, it is still enjoyable. You get to experience a couple minutes with a Disney character/story/theme/environment in much the same way you do with other attractions. I would recommend seeing it, especially if you like Lilo and Stitch at all.

Like others have said, SGE is often unfairly criticized. It replaced a popular ride that many became attached to. What's worse is that ride catered to a slightly more limited audience, so it's opposition is even more galvanized, as they see their ride preferences as being trampled.

If it were to have opened individually, without overtaking a separate attraction, it would have much, much less negativity surrounding it with many WDW fans.

In my opinion, SGE's real problem is that it is too dull and "kiddy" for the adult crowd, and too intense of an experience for the children it is intended for!

The reason AE was so great was because of the effects. The darkness, the intensity, and the effects. That made the show.

SGE tries to use some of the same effects while trying to eliminate some of the darkness and intensity. This in my opinion is why the show fails to entertain.

It's as though Disney can't figure out who they are trying to target this experience to. With a script aimed at 5 year olds... and then sirens, flashing lights, and warnings over the intercom screaming "EMERGECY, EMERGENCY!" Oh yeah, then the kid gets to be put in a dark room, forced to sit in his own seat, and strapped down with what feels like a restraint device... I can't imagine why there are kids screaming bloody murder throughout the entire attraction...

I think Steve said it best in his 5/3/05 update: Height requirement change

The height requirement for Stitch is being increased to 40" in an attempt to keep young children out of the attraction that was designed for young children.

-Sorry for the rant-
To answer the origional question... find a time where the wait is 15 minutes or less, or fastpass it... Then, ride it... Then you say to yourself "Besides the cool animatronic and cannons, that was really stupid." Then, you don't do it again until it gets (another) major overhaul or opens as something new in a few years. :)

IMO, it isn't the best attraction Disney has done (Alien Encounter was definitely better) but you won't be disappointed if the wait time is short. Anything more than 20 minutes, I wouldn't bother with.
AMEN! I wasn't impressed with the ride, either, but that's because [small voice]i love stitch[/sv] and I thought the ride could have been great. The animatronic is awesome, but the story is really lacking, and would likely be very disappointing if you had to wait for longer than 20 minutes (don't bother with a Fastpass either - not worth using up a precious FP window!)

Rode stich last week

Rode/saw stich last week. It's kinda cute. like everyone says, don't spend a lot of time waiting for it. evening hours seem to be little or no wait. Alien encounter made a lot of kids cry. That doesn't make for a very fun day after that. Dinosaur in AK is tonned way down from the beginning as well. Both my kids were crying when they got off and didn't trust us the rest of the trip to tell them if a ride was "too scary" or not.

I think the original poster answered the key question. His wife likes Stitch. Then you must do it. Compared to other rides, and Alien Encounter, its lame, but as someone else said, it fits the park its in better. MK is about family fun and Stitch is more cuddly than the alien in AE.

If the line is more than 20 minutes, I would deff not wait for it. It also is not worth getting a fast pass for. I personally will prob never go on it again after see the show so many times during work.

We rode it last April and everyone in our party hated it. :( I wouldn't wait very long to ride it, but I don't think I would waste a fastpass on it either.

Is Stitch's Great Escape really as bad???

Yes. It is really pathetic.

I never saw Alien Encounter, so my opinion is not based on which one is better.

I am also a Stitch fan (to an extent) and I just thought it was really worth the bad hype that it has been receiving...

Will it ruin your trip if you decide to go see it anyways??? Absolutely not.

Will it waste a lot of time on your trip between waiting in line and sitting through it?? Absolutely yes (of course the wait to see it shouldn't be too long seeing how pathetic it is :) ).

Don't get me wrong... I like Stitch (the character) and I think a Stitch attraction would work well in the park... just make it a worth-while one...

is that too much to ask?

Like everyone said, if there is no wait, then try it, but don't be surprised if you think it stinks. Stitch seems to be a popular character nowadays, so I don't know why they didn't use the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea area to make a decent E-ticket Stitch ride.

Stitch is the first Disney attraction/show that I was somewhat upset I had spent my time on. The whole show is bad in my opinion and the chili dog just adds insult to injury. My parents(50's) and girlfriend(21) agreed with me. I did love AE though so perhaps that swayed my opinion.
