Is Star Wars Weekend worth attending?

My son is 11 years old and a huge Star Wars fan. I would love to take him to Star Wars Weekend, but I have a big problem with crowds. Is it worth putting up with the crowds or will it be too overwhelming? We are not new to WDW, this would be our 7th trip since 2002. Any insight/info would be greatly appreciated.

If you've never done it before, I can say it is definitely worth it. But, I do give you fair warning that you should never wait for Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) as he is a big jerk... And the year I met him, he was slammed in the paper for being so horrible for the crowds...

I'm a big Star Wars fan, as a young boy growing up in the 80's it was a huge part of my life. I would love to go to one of the Star Wars Weekends but vacationing from May through August is absolutely off limits for me. :(

my friend and i were at DHS during one of the star wars weekends and it was really neat. Neither one of us are into star wars, but seeing storm troopers on the roof of the ticket entrance and mickey in stars costume was cool. we stayed away from star tours, but there was unique items and what not. i wish i had brought my camera to the park that day, but it was supposed to rain, so i didnt have it. My dad enjoyed it though.

Star Wars Celebration 2 and 3 were here in Indy(only went to #2) and it was a blast to go to.I skipped #3 to go to a Colts draft day party and to hang with the Cheerleaders.I can only fathom the fun they have at Disney tho.I bet it would be a blast.

It is worth it but you will want to get there really early if you can not take the crowds. You will also need to pick what you want to do as it is nearly impossible to do everything in one day. Get to DHS early enough to be inside the park at least 1/2 hour before opening. If all you want to do is the character meet and greets then you should have an easy time of it providing you get there before park opening and you head straight to the characters and start doing it. At that time the majority of us hardcore Star Wars geeks will be in the autograph and merchandise lines. If you want to get the celebrity autographs you will need to get to the parks extremely early. The bigger the name the earlier you will need to get there. To give you an example the line for Ray Park (Darth Maul) last year started around 2:00 AM. I got in line at 6:00 AM and was only able to get a stand by pass. The Behind the Force and Stars of the Saga are pretty easy to do regardless of when you make it to the parks but you will want to get to the theater a good half an hour before the show.

On a side note.....plan for heat. SWW this year will be entirely in June. Wear light colored clothes, lather on the sun screen and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

One of our trips happened to coincide with SWW, and though I love Star Wars, I was not about to wait in those INSANE lines for autographs! It was really crowded, but the lines for the attractions weren't bad (except Star Tours of course).

  1. Listen to Master Yoda. I took his advice when in took my son for his 1st Star wars weekend and because we were prepared we had a great time.
  2. We didn't do autographs, my son isn't into those, but we did do a ton of pictures with the the Star Wars characters. Be prepared to stand in line for those.
  3. The crowds were very heavy around the areas where they hold the Jedi Academy, Star Tours and the characters. Although, we were down by where the new Toy Story attraction sis going and Darth Maul was coming back on stage, saw my son in his Jedi Robe and light saber, circled him and challenged him to a duel. Priceless!
  4. It will be hot. Lot's of water and rest.
  5. IT IS WORTH IT!
