Is Paint the Night & Magic Happens dead?

Paint the Night last performed back in November of 2018 at DCA. Magic Happened for about two weeks before the year long closure.

It is safe to say that the resort is still trying to get back to its pre-pandemic state, and its almost there. But it still doesn't sit right with me that both brand new parades are collecting dust while a 50 year old dinosaur is still running around. I don't believe the "both parades are going to Florida" rumor in the slightest, but at this rate I rather that happen than it sit in storage.

with the issues disneyland is having with fantasmic and world of color, maybe it's better that technologically-complicated entertainment such as paint the night and magic happens stay dead.

True. They can barely get thirty year old shows to work correctly even after a year of refurbishments.

Did they really let the park go to pot during the closure? Ancient Alien Theorists say "Yes".

I'm so jealous MSEP didn't return to WDW for the 50th. But yes, happy that it's light is shining on the west coast :)

MK needs a night parade. With last year's 50th underwhelming visitors, it'd be nice if Oct 1st gets something this year.

Unfortunately no one here is really going to know. Disney does things based on their own logic and doesn't tell the public.

PtN could come back in the future, or it could sit in a warehouse permanently. The same goes for Magic Happens, but expect that one to come back at least some point in the near future.

To be fair, MSEP was Disneyland's parade and deserved to stay for it's 50th Anniversary this year. Plus it was treated poorly after it's last venture to WDW and back.

Still jealous, lol. Love that parade! Was sad to hear pieces were kept under Walmart tarps in Orlando. One day I'll make it over to DL to see it.

I'm more mad at MSEP for staying longer at WDW causing Spectromagic to never gain a proper refurb and left to rot! I remember when WDW originally planned on only running MSEP for the Summer of 2010 but stayed until October 2016.

There's a reason WDW fans don't want MSEP back or another clone (looking at you PTN). Heck they are still lamenting on the parade's fate 12 years later. The resort deserves it's own electrical parade similar to Spectro (especially during it's 50th Anniversary which is a complete joke).

Those things are known as "The Spectromen", Disney even created a backstory on these characters and the entire parade

"The SpectroMen are keepers of light. They hold the parades magical light and transform it for you in the midst of the night. They come from a land called LightSpriation where everything is filled with rays of light and magical bursts of color. They were always afraid to come out of hiding and share their magical light, until one day, Mickey, the SpectroMen King, asked if they would join him in a nighttime festival of magic and light, and come and bring the magical light for everyone to see. Scared to confront people, they hesitated. After much consideration, the SpectroMen agreed. They brought along their magical SpectroBalls and Light-Trumpets to spread the joy of their magical light to everyone. Mickey controls the light they magically create and powers the parade through his Electro-ball, changing it from night to day, or crystal to multi-color."

Disney later made the Spectromen face characters sometime in 2007/2008.

I don't care if some find them creepy, I personally love those guys. They gave that parade so much charm and non got reference in future Disney Media (not even the Paul Rudish Mickey shorts... yet).

I wouldn’t be surprised if the parades are just temporarily retired until the company figures out a way to present them as exclusive $500 per person upcharges.

Y’know…to avoid “guest disappointment“ and all. The company cares so much!

What could have happened that caused a brand stinkin new night parade to go kaput so fast?
It didn't, but here are the likely reasons it hasn't come back yet.
1.) Disney trying to cut costs, no shock there. Fewer parades, fewer performers.
2.) So few people got to see it before the park's closure that they want it to be an event they can market. They simply don't need MH! for that right now (see #4).
3.) Because of the limitations of Disneyland's parade route, it is more complicated to run a day and night parade on the same day than it is at other parks.
4.) It's the 50th anniversary of MSEP, which they know will bring people on its own, so they feel they don't need another parade.

To be clear, these are not excuses or me endorsing their choices, but simply reasons why they have chosen not to bring it back yet.

PTN unfortunately is probably dead.
