Today, Ynon Kreiz was named Non-Executive Chairman of the Mattel Board of Directors of Mattel Toys, Inc.

For those of you who don’t know or remember Mr. Kreiz, he organized the sale of Maker Studios to Disney:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Digital_Network

Mr. Kreiz was also part of the Saban Group who sold For Kids Entertainment to Disney in 2001:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saban_Entertainment
“From 1996 to 2002, he served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at Jetix Europe (Fox Kids Europe) which he co-founded in October 1996. He was at FKE until December 2002. However, Mr. Kreiz remained affiliated with the Saban Capital Group. Under his leadership, Fox Kids Europe became one of the fastest growing pay-TV channels in Europe and the Middle East, broadcasting in 56 countries in 17 languages.”

“He holds Board seats at Daylife, ESPN America (also known as NASN), Player X, Ltd. and Ricall Limited.”

So, since Mr. Kreiz has a nice track record of selling to Disney I would guess that:
A) Bob Iger will eventually put Kreiz on the Disney's Board of Directors, and…………
B) Mattel will become part of the Disney Empire and…..
C) because having a major toy-maker under Disney makes a lot of sense

opinions one and all…………….

The stuff he sold Disney did so well... bankrupt stores and a now valueless YouTube channel that Disney blew a half billion on. Most of the talent immediately jumped ship, the rest Disney fired for one reason or another and the main anchor was PewDiePie also fired...

Could happen I guess but Disney has been cutting ties with Mattel for a while, starting with taking away the Disney Princess license from them due their poor handling of it and giving it to rival Hasbro which caused several higher ups to be fired and Mattel’s finances have dropped significantly since. Though I don’t think Disney is interested in toy production since they just license all their stuff out to Hasbro and such which is rather lucrative, and who makes the Disney Parks and Disney Store Toys? It doesn’t say anywhere.

Having been in said industry for two decades, while it seems of interest, I'd still bet against it. This has been talked about in our industry's circle for many years (Disney acquiring one of the major toy manufacturers) and the issue is that Disney has never been very successful at producing their own product. Their greatest success is through licensing versus manufacturing. By licensing their properties, it's an endless goldmine versus if you own said company and product flops, there is no income from the initial rights that were granted for XYZ toy company to produce the product.

As for the products in the parks, Disney contracts to a variety of manufacturers (mostly in Asia), which is something that my company does. Quite honestly, their current set-up is the most lucrative and I wouldn't expect that to change. Their consumer products division has always had issues when they manufacturer anything and the licensing deals are where the vast majority of the profits lie. They approve product design from licensees and collect a pretty license fee for those products available through that company.

I wouldn't read too much into Board stuff. Even with Steve Jobs on the Disney board, they didn't stop using Blackberrys until about five years ago.

Uh yeah...They tried that with a Barbie show in Epcot and that didn't work too well..

And did cross promotions to get a special video...

Things are somewhat different now and Disney's going in a different direction, as noted by many posts here.
And while GM has been a sponsor for some time, they put Mary Barra on the Board.
I guess wait and see is where I'm at right now, I just don't think it's that crazy.
Mattel's at a 5 year low of $12.96/share..........................good time to buy 'em out.

Interesting...........Lucas Arts - 4 Billion
Marvel - 4 Billion again
Today's Mattel value - 4.5 billion?
Seems like a theme..........................

I don’t think this is likely. Disney shutters their video game studio but buys a toy company?
Very good point, and that's actual, not my speculation.

Tesla is trying to vertical integration for cost savings and I'm betting they will be out of busines in two years. The all powerful Elon Musk thinks he is the Herny Ford of the EV industry. Do realize Henry went BK with his first auto company.
I'm thinkin' this is more like DeLorean. When you launch one of your cars on a rocket, a red convertible no less,
you've really entered the ultimate mid-life crisis.
Cracks are starting to show in the empire.
Make a car EVERYONE can afford, maybe in stainless with a Flux Capacitor!

PS Corey, I first thought you wrote Ernie Ford (LOL)-do Teslas weigh 16 Tons (Google it)
