it all depends on the position that you will be working
alot of companys have dress codes so you might want to see what they are before buying clothing

It depends upon where you're going to be working.

A bank? Insurance company? Law office? Investment firm? Definitely no.

Retail store? Tattoo shop? Anyplace "artsy" and geared towards younger customers? Probably OK.

It also depends upon your own shape and physique. You might be a distraction if you're curvaceous. The fact that your boyfriend thinks it is inappropriate is probably a good indicator that it is.

How was the person who interviewed you dressed? Other employees? It's a pretty dress, but you might want to save it for the weekends.

I also say NO.

First impressions are SO important, especially at work. Wear something a little more conservative, too much "skin" at work is never appropriate, unless you are working in the adult industry.

But like The Mom said, it depends upon WHERE you will be working. If it's a retail store such as Hot Topic, it might be overdressed.

You may be able to get away with it IF you wear a sweater over it all day, but otherwise a strapless is not a good idea for work unless it's company issued.

I would base my clothing decisions on what the other employees were wearing, did they not tell you what the dress code was?

At my old office we always had the new hires show up in strapless, backless, you-name-it-less items and they were pulled aside to explain it was inappropriate for our workplace. It was so embarassing for them that they usually went home at lunch to change. You definitely don't want to go through that your first day - so if you are unsure - better to go more conservative and see what people are wearing!

Good luck - and congratulations on your new job - it's been rough for people to find one these days!

If it is an office environment, strapless is NEVER appropriate. Even with a sweater over it, that is a bit too much skin.

If you want to be taken seriously and want people to think you are a responsible grownup, save the strapless for after work.

You will never get in trouble by covering up -- unless you work at Hooters.

I see that Eeyore edited it. I also noted it, and decided to give her the benefit of the doubt, and assumed that she was just linking so we could see the dress.
And yes, I did check her other posts, which were extremely bland.

But, in general, hot linking to a commercial site is against forum rules. There are exceptions. If we had been certain it was spam, she would have been banned.

Once we were certain, she was banned. Better than average spammer, but spammer none the less.
