Is it possible to Park Hop without a Park Hopper?

Hi everyone!

We are heading to WDW in just 29 short days (whoo!) And I have a question before I finalize my tickets. Right now we've got 3 base tickets however my daughter has decided that she NEEDS to go to Hollywood Studios (she previously had no interest in it and said she didn't want to go until after the Star Wars Land opens) and since it's her birthday trip, I'm trying to be flexible. However, I was already planning on adding a 4th day so we can have extra time at Magic Kingdom, one day never seems like enough! We also have one day at Universal planned. If we add on a day for Hollywood Studios then that means we will be in the parks everyday.

Now that I've made a long story longer then it really needed to be, here's my question:

Can you use two base tickets in the same day? It doesn't make sense for us to have the Park Hoppers, but if we end up needing a day to relax we may end up with an extra park ticket and I'd hate to have it go to waste. I don't honesty think we'll spend more than a few hours at Hollywood Studios, so I figured we could always do Magic Kingdom that afternoon or something.

They won't allow that. That way they can charge you MUCH more for park hopper than what you would pay for an extra day on a multiple day ticket. For example, I could add a day to our next stay for about $15, and would gladly do that to hop parks just one time. But to do that at all I would have to spend $130+ for park hopper. To me that rule seems pretty stupid, but that's the way it is.

I think you're probably right in what the OP intended. I just wanted to be clear in case others check out the thread in the future with a similar question.

More, probably. I didn't say it was smart, but there are circumstances where it might work. Some people have gotten tickets as part of a promotion, convention, conference, timeshare presentation, etc. and it might be worth it to those people to use multiple tickets on the same day.

that's the way I took it and in that case no you can't do it.

To clarify for the OP... If you have two separate base tickets you can use them for the same person on the same day at different parks, or at the same park if you wanted. But if you have a 2 day ticket you can only use one of the entrance days per day you cannot use day 1 and day 2 on the same day.

If you have never been to Hollywood Studios then you can probably spend more time there than you think. A lot of that will depend on what you and your family want to do. To add a park hopper to your 3 day ticket will be about 70 dollars more per ticket... The other option is to do nothing and just buy a separate ticket to enter the park the day you want it which will be about 105 a ticket... It would cost you more but if you decide not to go to a park one day you wont be out anything. Also I think you can add the park hopper at anytime during your stay so that might also be an option where you don't do anything until you go, if you finish Studios in a few hours then bite the bullet and add a park hopper to your ticket and if you realize there is more to Studios than you thought then you just keep your base tickets as is.

I've been to Hollywood Studios before, my daughter isn't really into the shows and she isn't tall enough for Rock n Rollercoaster and she is afraid of Tower of Terror, so it doesn't leave much to do, but we'll try to anyways. Haha.

Yup, you're correct. Adding a PH should be $75 + tax. A 1-day ticket is between $114+tax and $129+tax, depending on the park and date.

The only issue that I have run into is, when you try and add a park hopper on during your trip, you pay for the park hopper for all days, not just the day or two at the end, for example you have a 7 day ticket and on day 5 you decide to add the park hopper, you pay for the 7 day cost of the park hopper, not the last three days, never understood why Disney does this, but I know this is how it works, I have tried in the past to do this and have not been able to unless I wanted to pay for the hopper for the entire stay

Is either you or your S.O. a night owl?
It would be cheaper to add park hopper to one of your tickets than to buy a single one day ticket. That would afford one of you the option to, say, go to a different park near the end of the night, while the other one stays with the kid in the hotel, maybe in a park that has EMH that night.

The issue you will run into is, I believe you have to add the hopper for everyone in the party on the package, so unless you purchased two separate packages, it will not work, Disney has this option nailed down

Disney would probably sell a lot of "less that total stay" park hoppers. For our six day trip in June we would like to be able to park hop on ONE of the days, but since it is all or nothing we will not be purchasing a 6 day park hopper that would only be used for one day. What they should do is allow you to purchase anything from one day to length of stay, and use those at any time during your stay. Bottom line is they would get a little extra from me for a partial park hopper but as it is now they will get nothing extra.

What is it that she wants to do at HS? I'm all for going to HS but even I have to admit that if your going to skip the shows, RnR, and ToT it may not even be worth the time to go there. Your only going to have Star Tours, TSMM, and a few meet and greets.
