Is it better to...

Do you think you'd be saving more money by buying a parkhopper ticket from a Disney Store, not use it until next Feb (when we plan on going), and just make a room reservation now OR wait until the new ticket prices come out next month?
a. Do the room and Ticket packages really save you money?
b. Are tix from the disney store only good until the end of the year?

Thanks for your input.

Any disney tickets, no matter where your purchase them, are good indefinitely until the first time you use it. From the first use, they expire in 14 days, I believe...unless you purchase the no expiration option.

To my knowledge, there is no difference in the cost between purchasing the tickets seperately and booking a room only vs booking a package. I think the only price difference would be in the ticket prices if you purchase the tickets now under the current price as opposed to buying them later at an increased price. But I don't know of any automatic discount for booking it as a pacakge as opposed to a room only. So yes, you would probably save a little money if you purchased the tickets now, since the ticket price will surely go up when the new prices are announced next month.

Just keep in mind that if you are interested in doing the dining plan, you must book it as a package. If you buy your tickets ahead of time, and then decide you want the dining plan on your stay, then you would have to buy at least a one day park ticket in order to book your stay as a "package" and thereby qualify for the dining plan. And that could negate most, if not all, of the savings you might receive by purchasing the tickets early at this year's prices.

Though, the one thing you have to consider if the pricing goes up on ticket prices when you go to the gate, regardless if you bought the tickets before the price increase, you still have to pay the remaining bal on the price increase. Sucks, I know.

I purchase my tickets through the undercovertourist, and through mouse savers I got a great discount on my tickets. If you want, you can PM me and I can email you the info.

The tickets are good 'til you start using them, and if you get the no expiration option, they're good forever, sort of....

The biggest advantage to purchasing a package is that you could get the dining plan that way (at an additional cost). A search on this forum will give you tons of info about the dining plan.

I would suggest that you contact Kindom Konsultants for advise and help in booking your trip. They are sposors here and have helped many people get the best possible deal on a WDW vacation. There is no fee for their service, so give them a try.

Can someone else verify that, because I don't think that's correct. (no offense intended).

It is my understanding that if you purchase a ticket, it's good for park admission at any time, even 5 years from now, without any additional fees (unless, of course, you decide later to add on the no expiration option, park hopper option or water parks and more option). I was never aware of anything stating that if you come into the park with a previous years' ticket, that you have to pay the difference in price between the current year and the year the ticket was purchased.

Heck, that would mean that next year, when we go back with the remaining 5 days of this year's ticket, we would have to pay extra at the gate, since ticket prices will most likely go up next month.

That's not true, but if room rates go up between the time you book and the time you actuall go, you will have to pay the difference.

We're still using tickets that we bought 2 years ago, andhave never had to pay an increase.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. A second question about this... If I have AAA do I have to book through them, in order to get the discount?

I've booked room only reservations with a AAA discount just by calling the regular reservation number and mentioning I have AAA. Again - try Kindom Konsultants - they have an excellent reputation here.

Ticket prices are whatever you pay when you buy them. If the price goes up between when you buy them and when you use them you save money. You will never be asked for more money, unless you want to add features to the tickets later.

But if you want to send extra money, simply out of guilt for not paying as much as other people paid, I would be happy to handle that for you.... :lookaroun

Now wait - I've got 4 years of college to pay for for DS17.
I think I've got most of that covered for DS12 [I don't consider that "extra" money... more like essential], but the four WDW trips in 12 months [two down, two to go] are definitely dipping into my "extra" cash!

I'm very much a "package" girl... and can't remember the last time I paid full price for any disney trip. I don't belong to AAA or have an AP, so I very much rely on the packages disney releases.

Rarely does disney offer discounted ticket packages, but for my trip this past January, we traveled on a package special that offered a "free ticket upgrade." So we paid rack rate for the room and a base ticket, but was upgrade to a park hopper and water park and fun ticket. Not "great" savings (roughly $80/person) and I think there can sometimes be better packages (room discounts) through AAA with better savings.

With any package special disney releases, the real discounts are usually in regards to the resorts. The current special applied to my dates would give me a savings of almost $75 a night at the polynesian! Thats a saving of over $500 for the week.

For my trip this September though, we took advantage of "free dinning" and the savings is huge if you have a larger family. We're very much looking forward to this!

To answer your original question, you can do that if you like! You won't be forced to pay any type difference. People have used park hopper tickets from the 90s with no issue lol!
