Is it a big deal?

We are going in September and I booked room-tickets-dining at all-star sports. My parents decided they won't be going enough to use all of their DVC points this year and offered to let us use those. Do I just keep my package and stay at the other hotel? Would it be weird when Disney 'room checks' are done and no one is there?? Lol.
Should I cancel the package? We will definitely be staying at the DVC hotel.

I booked it right after it came out. Is everything still refundable? Am I able to just do tickets and dining? Would it be more expensive?

Of course you can buy the dining plan staying at DVC. And, you can buy tickets. Call your travel agent or Disney directly to find out about cancelling your current reservation. Depending on the size of your villa, you may have a full kitchen and can save a whole lot of money if you are interested in preparing some meals in the room instead of purchasing the dining plan.
We have gone a couple of times when we never spent a penny on Disney food, just stocked our kitchen with groceries from Publix and dined in the room three times per day. We spent less than $150 for the entire week's groceries. Of course, we drove and had easy access to the grocery store.

Here is info about adding a dining plan to the DVC reservation:

As long as you're staying on property at Walt Disney World Resort you can purchase the Disney Dining Plan. You can add the Disney Dining Plan to your Disney Vacation Club Resort room reservation at least 48 hours prior to Check-In. It cannot be added once you arrive at the Resort.
If you would like to add the Disney Dining Plan to your Walt Disney World Resort reservation, please call (800) 800-9800† Or go to Vacation Center in the My Membership box. Once in the Vacation Center, click on Upcoming Reservation, choose Travel Plan Details, and then click on Add a Dining Plan.
Everyone staying in the room must participate in the Disney Dining Plan and full payment is required when you add on the Disney Dining Plan. It must be purchased for the entire length of the stay. The Disney Dining Plan cannot be added at the Resort.

You need to consider if the dining plan will pay for itself! Most guests on here have stated that the dining plans are a waste because they would not eat that much, hence the plans being too expensive! I would opt to eat as you go or cook in room(if you have a kitchen).

I'm going with at least 2 hungry boys (BF32 & DS9) and, if his mother has a change of heart, my DSS10. We Will definitely utilize the kitchen most mornings except one-because Tonga toast- and we are planning breaks in the afternoon when we'll have lunch or dinner in the room. My BF and his son have never been so I'm not sure we will leave the park each day since there's so much to see. I know it'll be a lot of food but I figured if DSS does go I could just add his ticket to the DVC room and we would work off 3 dining plans for 4 people since we'll have food in the room as well. If I cancel the package I would need to buy dining plans for all 4 people, right? I'm incredibly nervous about buying tickets and dining for my BFs son of he ends up not going. Is any of that refundable? We have to go to court to be able to take him; and while I think our chances are good, it is a lot of money for something if it's not refundable. That's the main reason I'm considering keeping both rooms.

Yaya...I think all your questions can be answered by calling Disney directly and asking. I know you get some great advice on here, but if I were you, I would want it straight from the horses mouth! Have a list of questions that you need answers to and then call! You will be able to find out about adding DSS10 at a later date as well! That way you are not out any extra cash! I think if you are going to utilize the DVC for a lot of your meals, I would just budget out a few days of in park QS dining! Give the boys a choice of one day each and then you and BF choose a day. eat the rest of your meals in the room!

I hope all works out for DSS, its sad that parents have to go to court to be able to take their son/daughters to a theme park! Divorced couples with kids need to CO-PARENT together for the sake and well being of the child! People( not y'all. just a general comment) need to stop using your kids as pawns to get your way or get back at the other!

I appreciate your response! If it were just my son and I going, I wouldn't even worry about the dining plan because we don't mind going back to the room. I just want my BF and DSS to have the best time. 😊 I'm sure everyone can relate.. I definitely will call to see if anything is refundable should DSS not be able to join us. I honestly thought about offering the 'extra' room at ASsports to DSS's mother but she's never been friendly with me and has been downright mean since we started planning this trip last year. I can't justify spending that much money to be picked on for 8 days.

I also appreciate your wise words on the subject of co parenting.. It has been a serious strain on us (my son especially) trying to be excited but also quiet about the whole thing. DSS knows we're going but doesn't know he might not and my son is still SO confused about how 4 people can go with only 3 tickets and dining plans (he was sitting next to me when I booked the room and we did a "we're going to Disney dance). I try not to talk to either of them about it too much to avoid making negative feelings toward DSS mother.

Just be aware that if staying on your parents’ points, that they will have to book for you, and add the dining plan if you want it. DVC will not speak to you unless you are also a member - ie: on the deeds. So it will be your parents’ reservation.

However do the math on the dining plan. You will not get any discount on it when staying DVC so keep that in mind.

However you need to check out the comparative cost, and quickly. September is the start of Fall Frenzy DVC wise, the busiest time. You will need to book as soon as possible, and already your choices may be limited. You will still be in the home resort booking window now, but even so here may be some room categories booked out at your parents’ home resort.

Make sure you get the DVC room booked before cancelling the package.

Oh, it's booked already. 😊 now I'm just trying to decide what to do with what I have. I don't think my parents would mind arranging those things for me but I should definitely check it out. Currently, my biggest concern is what is and isn't refundable should my DSS not be able to go. . . am I able to call and inquire about that or would that also be something for my parents to do?

With DVC it doesn’t matter who goes. You could simply remove him if he can’t go, or rather your parents would have to.

As far as your existing package goes, you can cancel that up to 30 days before I believe. That would cancel the tickets though, which is why you should decide what to do about tickets before cancelling.

1) Book park hoppers and link them to everyone’s MDE before cancelling the package. (If someone then doesn’t go, you will get the value of them towards another ticket next time).

2) Upgrade to APs

- either in advance if that’s possible, again before cancelling the package

-or by buying park hoppers like above and upgrading at the parks.

So either way you will need to buy tickets first.
