Is Epcot getting away from the future?

ISn`t there a rumor going around that they want to turn Spaceship earth into some kind of Rollercoaster or something? I think they want to call it time racer or something like that.

Epcot is not an acronym for anything.

Over the last several years E.P.C.O.T. Center slowly gave way to Epcot. I beleive it was the final realization that Walt's vision and modern day reality would never meet.

Your right.. I never thought that the ride was the same since it opened. The history part makes sence but near the end when it says what our FUTURE will be like... We are already doing those things it shows us. :veryconfu

I say really REDO Spaceship Earth... Add some NEW Technology.. I heard Microsoft is doing it. Sounds good to me.

Spaceship still gets the rideship needed to stay open, so it's not an immediate problem for them to address.

Wonder of Life & The Living Seas more action is needed. Ther only thing, after they do Living Seas, that would be a long wait for an update to SE, if you completely overhaul Wonders of Life

I would not be surprised if Epcot avoids attractions that tries to open a magic curtain to see what future technology holds. The reason for this is cost. Look how much money went into attractions that were imaginative and innovative when they first opened...and now, as some have pointed out, children find them boring because the future is now old news.

How far can WDI go with what the future holds without crossing the line of being outlandish or ridiculous? I remember, as a youth almost forty years ago, thinking that Mission to Mars was one of the coolest rides showing the future that I could ever imagine. Now it's good for a few laughs for some. I remember being awed by the future technology of Star Trek, and thinking how fictional it was to be able to record an audio/visual medium on a little plastic card. Now we have home camcorders that burn directly to a DVD format in the camera, and digital cameras that can record X amount of seconds of video.

My point is, I guess, that any major attractions (and they're not cheap) dealing with the future would have to be designed to outlast where technology is going in the next 20 years (at least)...and that may be easier said than done.

I hope Microsoft dont, cos it'll probably crash every 10 minutes, and lose everything inside without saving it! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I dont think that Universe is dated...but I do think that Body Wars and that whole building there is.

EPCOT definitely has lost its sense of "future" in "Future World." Mission Space does fit in more with this much better than Test Track ever did. Overall, the whole park has lost its essence and cohesion. Before every pavillion had a connection to the theme of exploration and discovery for the future. Most pavillions had a beginning of the history of the subject it dealt with moved through current times and gave a view and discovery of what was ahead for the future. It kind of showed us where we've been and where we are going. All pavillions in future world used to have a styllistic symbol that when combined with other pavillions gave a whole essence and theme to Future World about exploration, discovery, and dreaming about the future. This is seriously lacking now and it needs this reconnection badly.

By the way, Walt's vision for EPCOT wasn't impossible, it simply needed Walt's ability to carry on and push it through, because nobody has the vision, drive, or capability that Walt possessed.
