Is Disney's Campground still "Magical"?

Short story is I want a camper, the wife is unsure (but she very much enjoys tent camping when season permits).

She is not crazy about staying at Disney's campground as she feels it would not be the same as a resort's "magicalness". Though I DID tell her I would have no problem staying at Disney for 2 weeks as it would be about the same and maybe cheaper.

So, any thoughts on how well Disney keeps their Campground special that I could persuade her with? Negative thoughts?

We love the Campground. I am not sure what makes a specific resort "Magical" to someone but there are several things that make the campground special. Lots of people with large RV's decorate their camping spot with Disney stuff. Some go over the top. The campground is fairly quiet which is nice after a busy day at the park. There are Disney movies around the campfire every night with toasted marshmellows. The boat ride to the MK is always enjoyable. There are 2 trading posts with the typical Disney stuff as well as camping staples. Don't miss the lawnmower in the tree or the petting zoo/Pioneer Hall area.

We stay at Fort Wilderness almost every year , it's the cheapest . Most of the time we cook our own food in our trailer and that saves a lot of money . At night it's very calm and laid back and you never know it's only a boat ride away from the MK . A lot of things to do , nice pool . We will get a bottle of wine , go down to the beach sit and watch the Electrical Water pageant , then the fireworks at MK .
We are heading down in a few weeks and can't wait .

my daughter was like your wife. if it's not a hotel, it's not a vacation.
then we ended up staying there one night due to a little issue with getting out of town during a hurricane.
she finally admitted she liked the place and we have stayed there in cabins twice!

indeed it is a different kind of magic than Grand Floridian. As said above, it is a friendly quiet place. lots of neighborly interaction going on, and you make lots of friends fast. sort of like camping anywhere is. you feel like you are in a completely separate and special world, within the world.

the decorations in the campsites make it just more magical. it is so worth spending an entire night just driving around, especially if you are there near a holiday.

now my daughter wants us to rent an RV just so we can stay in an actual camping loop- and this is my Ritz Carlton kind of girl. says a lot!!

We love the campground and have stayed there many times.
It is a peaceful getaway from the crowds at the parks.
Lots of shade.
People are friendly.
Campsite decorations during various holidays can be quite interesting.
A pleasant boat ride to and from the Magic Kingdom
Can go to the Magic Kingdom and then take the monorail or ferry to the TTC and get the monorail to EPCOT
Can take a boat directly to the Contempory Resort.
Buses avaivable to go to the other parks. Or you can drive your car which is right outside your door.
Buses available to take you around the campground.
Trails End restaurant and Crockett"s Tavern in the campground. Food is quite good, but not fancy.
Home of The Hoop De Do show and Mickey's Backyard Barbeque. (In season)
Can lie on the beach or play teather ball. No swimming alowed.
Watch the Electric water parade in the evening from the patio on the beach. Can also see the higher of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.:
Free evening Disney movies with Chip and Dale. Also marshmallow roasting.
A stable and horseback trail ridding.
Rent a golf cart, bicycle, canoe or small boat.
Evening hay rides and carriage rides.
Two Trading Posts for Disney Fort Wilderness souveniers, sundries, some groceries, camping supplies and snacks.
A very nice swimming pool complex plus a quiet pool available in the cabin loops.
A dog run area.
Lots of sidewalks if like to walk around the area. No sidewalks in the camping loops.
A walking trail to Wilderness Lodge.
One camping loop for tents and small campers which do not require all hookups.
For your use a clean restroom, showers, and laundry facility in each camping loop.
Can cook your own breakfasts, make lunches, or even cook dinner if you are so inclined. We would fix our own breakfast 90% of the time. Saves on meal costs.
Can relax, sit under your awning or eat at your picnic table.

Finally, the campground is less expensive than the hotels and is consistantly rated 5 stars by campground guides.

The lawnmower tree and the petting zoo are no longer there.
There is rarely, if ever, a discount on the campsites.
