Is Disney Getting Too Big??

When the All Star Resorts openend I thought the larger than life icons were really cool. Then came the EPCOT arm, MGM Hat, Mc Donalds, Rock n Roller coaster, the firehouse by downtown disney, Pop Century, The golf tees in front of the golf courses......am I missing anything? O.K. Disney we get it. You can build big stuff. Can this trend be stopped?

Actually, I don't see it as a "Just Disney" thing....

For example: My hubby and I just went to a movie (national treasure, I liked it!) We hadn't been to a movie in probably 6 months...... The whole movie theatre lobby was filled with these HUGE gigantic cardboard thingy's advertising soon to be movies..... It used to be just posters, now it's a big ol' Brad Pitt, or a Huge Will smith, ..... they are everywhere.....

Just like with meal portions at restaurants...... To me, everything is "Big and Supersized".... and I think Disney is just following the norm.

Bigger is Better!

It's better that disney is building Big things rather than small things. Big things can be seen unlike small things that cant.There just trying to keep up with what the other companies are doing.

I like the way they over size some of the things on property. It makes it stand out and with the exception of the EPCOT wand, and the MGM sorcerer hat I find it fun to look at.

Whether or not the big items are unneccessary depends on where they are constructed. The larger-than-life icons are the trademark for the flashy, somewhat tacky value resorts. Yeah, the giant golf tees are a little much...but now we've got one for the Epcot ball!

Now, as for that ball...the arm and wand definitely do not belong on SSE. Disney is the proud owner of the largest geodesic sphere on earth, a true architectural feat--and they've slashed it to the level of a Las Vegas casino with a giant cardboard arm and Elton John sparkles.

The Sorcerer Mickey hat, on the other hand, does belong in Disney-MGM studios. It nicely summarized the oversized, overhyped, glamourous, and (dare I say) gaudy atmosphere of Hollywood. But the hat's location is one of the stupidest decisions WDW has ever made, upstaged only by the arm/wand and the demolishment of JII.

"somewhat tacky value resorts" .... sorry, but have to kindly disagree with this. Value resorts are themed for families. Kids LOVE the big Buzz and Woody, etc..... What better way to get you in the disney spirit than have some huge dalmation guarding the door of your hotel? We can't all stay at the Grand Floridian~

Is Disney getting to big? I'll put it this way, I bet any other company would love to have the problem of being to big. Walt learned his lesson when he opened DL and wanted to make sure the restraints of limited land did not hinder his future projects. Great forsight Walt had with his Florida project.

I am just glad that it never turned into the city he wanted and instead turned into the ultimate travel destination in the world!!!!!!!!!

Well,I like the idea of Celebration, and wish that more cities were similar in make-up and nature.
