Is Disney being a Dumbo when it comes to "Song of the South"?.....

Well yes, but ultimately YouTube compresses the quality.

true, but we are going to get much anyway with a vhs or dvd rip.

A transfer from the original stock to blu ray will bring the best quality forward, but I don't see Disney co braving that storm without the backing from the African American community.

Its so rediculous, SotS is not racist at all. The PC wimps at Disney need to go away.
If Disney is so obsessed with remakes why not remake song of the south. Because there are a lot of parts could be better in the 1880 's southern men were tougher than they were portrayed in the film. A boy that old wouldn't be dressed so sissy. And the scene were the boy's are supposed to be torturing dogs the dog's actually look like they enjoy it . And perhaps they can make the black kid less dumb that really took something away from the film other than that I enjoyed it. But mostly because of the country critters. Long live the original splash mountain.

Even ignoring the "problematic" live action scenes, why not just remake the animated portions? There are surely some additional stories they can use from Harris' books (or even just going more directly to the source material folk tales).

If needed to distance from the original move, they could even do a "live action" version of the animals like they have been doing with all their cartoons.
