Is "Disney After Hours" Worth It?

I was looking at Disney After Hours at The Magic Kingdom. I'm thinking that I can probably find better things to do with $125 than three extra hours in the park.

If you've done this, was it worth it?

I went to the villains-themed one on July 11 and it was fun and not too crowded. The only rides that had a wait time were Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain (consistently 30 minutes). I have an AP, so I actually paid about $110 per ticket. I plan to go again if an AH night is offered on my January or June trips. I did not watch the show or the parade, just rode all the rides that were open and ate the included snacks. I personally think the morning hours are more of a waste of money considering you pay about the same price for only 1.25 hours and breakfast.

The lines are usually much shorter...that's the advantage...a 1 hour wait could become a 10 minute wait. The later you stay, the shorter the lines become...we've walked on Space Mtn. and BTMRR on past visits. We like it, and think it's probably one of the better "money grabs" on property.

We have done the AK and HS after party and we have enjoyed them. We did the AK one in December and at times we felt we were the only ones there, the HS one we did in May and that was a little more crowded. The HS one had longer waits with rides like Slinky being a half hour minimum all night. Tower had only one elevator running almost all night causing a longer wait. All-in-all we felt it was worth it. There would be no way to ride the more popular rides as many times as we did during a whole normal day.

We are also AP holders and this allowed us to enter the parks whenever we wanted. This allowed us to do all the other attractions and shows that were closed during the event. Even if you arrive at 7pm, some of the shows could be closed.

We plan to try the MK afterhours during our September trip and will be able to go an apples to apples comparison with the Halloween party.

Yes with that $125 you could purchase souvenirs, dine somewhere, take a tour, and come up with other things to spend it on. But if its getting more time on attractions that interest/ values you it may be worth it. For me it is because the lines on a regular day have taken away more time that I used to get to ride. You can at this point do enough in 3 hours to get your value, like long ago what extra ride time EMH and some ticketed events used give you.

To me the price point is too high to be worth it.
I'd love to me a lone soul on Main Street looking at the castle like you see on Instagram but not for that price.
If they priced it at a dessert party or even holiday party level I'd say its worth it but at a price that is at or above the daily ticket price its not worth it to me.

We went once. It was a comp given to us for a mess up on Disney’s part right when the event started. It was a lot of fun, and of course we got our money’s worth since it was free - but I don’t know how I would have felt paying $125 a person.

Three of the four in my group did this in June at DHS. We added it on to the first night of our trip. We arrived that afternoon, but did not have park tickets for that day. I felt like it was worth it. We pretty much did everything we wanted to at DHS and probably did not need to go back to that park at all the rest of the trip. I do not feel like it would be as worthwhile during the middle of a trip on a day that you already have park tickets because you are really paying for two park tickets that day. But we enjoyed how we did it.

Here's a rough ride count from what I can remember:
ToT: 2 or 3
RnR: 3
SDD: 2
TSM: 1
ST: 1

And we didn't even stay all the way until the end. We said if we did another After Hours event, it would have to be MK since there is more to do. But we enjoyed DHS one time, and if we did it again it would have to be under the right circumstances like it was this time.

OK, for AP holders, its $90. If you're a non-AP holder, I'm surprised that people never put two and two together that its really just the cost of a day ticket. I realize that most people are in on multi-day tickets or APs, but with the After Hours, you'd truly have to be crazy to go for one day instead of just buying an AH. You get way more production in for the AH than you could ever dream of in stand-by lines all day. And there's free soda, popcorn, ice cream, etc.

And possibly most importantly, you get to experience the attractions at night in the dark... the way the outdoor ones were meant to be experienced.

We have done the After hours at MK and HS and we had a great time at both. Definitely worth it, IMO and we will do it again. Looking forward to trying the AK After Hours. They also offer free bottled water, pop corn and ice cream during the vent. And HS had a few locations to buy adult beverages.

Worth every dime.... IF you greatly appreciate lighter crowds.

We do it every time we go. Well, variations of it. The Halloween deal. The Christmas deal, etc.

If you don't mind crowds all that much, or even if you just mildly dislike them, it is not worth it.

It's starting to look like a good value... as long as they keep the numbers low. Of course, that's how the hard-ticket parties started out, too.

Yea, let's see if they do. We did the special Halloween party a couple years back and the crowd levels were maxing out for what I consider comfortable while also paying an anti-crowd premium.

That's a good point. I'd add on, if you don't care about crowds AND you don't care about E-tickets. Tons of people obviously love to go and don't really care about E-tickets. If you don't care about mobs of people, but you love going on as many E-tickets as you can as much as you can, there's really no way to do it without AH unless you get super lucky. It actually makes going to Disney feel like going to a regular amusement park where you can ride stuff again and again without reservations or big stand-by lines.
