Is concierge worth it?

We have annual passes and the rates for a Poly Concierge room is not that bad. Only about $10 more than a lagoon view. Does anybody have an trip report they can share?

yea i would, you get free food and drinks, really good fireworks view from hawii building (I think that's the one). But can't tell you much more because I haven't stayed outside the Concierge building. Make sure you stay in the building with the food though.

So yea it's worth it.

Well, this is going to get some different responses, I'm sure, but I'd say definitely worth it. The convenience just can't be beat. Now, with all the people we take (at least 6, next trip 12!!! ) it's almost a necessity! There will be so many people whose tummies are on different schedules we'll have to have constant access to food and drinks! Seriously, and especially if you have kids, it's a Godsend. We got an upgrade last trip... we had a regular room with a lagoon view, and they said they'd upgrade us free of charge to a concierge with a garden view. We said H E double hockey sticks yes! It was wonderful! (We have four little ones :) ) So my opinion, for what it's worth, is concierge all the way!

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! The time we stayed there it was the BEST time we ever had!! If you don't do it, you'd be disapointed. For $10 bucks, it's worth it! :sohappy: (can i come stay with you :p )

Most people that say they loved concierge (myself included) were upgraded for free or got it at a discount. If you can get a AP rate, I would go for it. If you had to pay rack rate, I don't think the bottled waters and snacks are worth the extra cost. -Stephanie

True, but the original post for this was only a ten dollar difference between the lagoon view and the concierge. :) For us, we eat at LEAST one meal a day there (usually breakfast, sometimes dinner) so for a family of six like us, it's pretty good financially as well as for convenience. But yeah, for the average group, or a couple, it wouldn't make good money sense, really.

It all depends how important your ROOM VIEW is to you.

If you have a standard Lagoon view room now...thats pretty nice.

You are being upgraded to a Conceirge Garden view.

Now your room view has changed from looking at a Beautiful Lagoon to looking at shrubbery and the quiet pool.

My wife and I like the free snacks and breakfasts offered at the Conceirge because we can eat w/o lines and crowds and be on our way. Our room view is also important to us so we are paying a little extra for the Conceirge Lagoon view.

In my opinion, the only "Bad" rooms at The Polynesian are the ones far from the Great Cerimonial house. Especially if you have Resort mugs and lots of family and/or children. From most rooms you can easily walk to the Beach and get great views of the Magic Kingdom Fireworks and the Electrical Water Pageant.

Me, personally...I like to be able to just open up my sliding door, and see it all from my 1st floor patio :animwink:

We have already committed all our DVC points for 2004 to our Easter trip (less than 90 days away now!!!). So we will either have to borrow points for our early December trip, or rent a room. We decided a couple of weeks ago that we will probably bite the bullet and rent a concierge room somewhere. Samantha Brown always makes it look so nice, and the free food/drinks would really be nice!

So even though I have no experience with this level of service, I would say I think it sounds like a great idea!

The concierge service at the Polynesian is awesome. We are staying there in May. I really struggled over whether to pay the extra $$ for the concierge service. For me, the difference in price was about $120 a night since we wanted a lagoon view. I finally decided to pay the extra $$ and here's why.

1. Great location. The concierge service is in the Hawaii longhouse, which is smack in the middle of the resort. It's right next to both pools, the beach and the dock. It's also very close to the Great Ceremonial House. If you don't do the concierge, you can request a specific longhouse (other than the Hawaii and the Tonga), but there is no guarantee. So, despite your request, you could end up in the Rotearoa, which I am pretty sure means "happy hiking" in some Polynesian language.

2. The concierge staff. They are really great. Everyone at the resort is friendly, but the concierge staff make you feel special.

3. The concierge lounge. It's like adding a 1000 square feet to your room. If you have never been to the Hawaii's lounge, it's two floors with an entire wall of glass facing MK and the castle. Great for watching the fireworks (the music is piped right in). The lounge has a big screen tv, compfortable seating, books and games. It's a great place for a rainy day or to unwind after the park. Also, this is where they serve the food (see below).

4. The food. It is basically an unlimited supply of drinks, food and snacks. It will save you money if you eat every meal there. But that's no fun. I figured if we average a meal and a half a day there, it knocks about $30 to $40 off the price of the concierge service. The food really varies and there is plenty of it. Here's a good site on the service: http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_polyc0.htm
The staff almost encourages you to stuff your bag with goodies for the park. The other thing the food service saves you is time. Typically I get breakfast in the morning and bring it to the room while my family gets ready. That saves us the time of traveling to a restaurant, getting seated, ordering and paying.

As I said, I am a big fan of the Poly's concierge service. I hope this helps.

I just got back from six days at the Poly concierge (room 3514). For the price difference at the Poly, I'd say the concierge service beats the view. The concierge was helpful and friendly, and the food was good.

Johnvree's observations on the rest of the concierge benefits are correct, too. It's a nice lounge.

Having stayed at a number of concierge rooms in the past year (it's an occupational hazard), I'd say the Poly concierge ranks second only to the AK concierge in terms of value. The GF is dead last, and everything else falls between.

Hope this helps. Drop me a line if there's anything else I can help with.

Sincerely,

Len

Since you are not doing DVC I say make sure to stay at Poly, GF, Con or ALK since you can't stay there DVC (you can use the points, but cash is often a better deal.) I know Sam Brown made the Conierge room at AKL look really good.

Normally I would not pay more, but for 10 a day, I would GO FOR IT! I am sure you can get you your money's worth out of it. (and feel pamered too.) Don't you get to use the really good robes? Sounds good to me.

My only word of concern this is, it may be hard to go back. I know I can't go back to Mods after Deluxes.

I hope Pam (Kingdom Konsultant) posts her recent concierge experience at the Wilderness Lodge here. I was surprised at what she had to say.

If by Rotearoa you mean Aotearoa then you might be thinking of the wrong longhouse. That building is right near Tonga and is a quick walk to the Great Ceremonial House, Pool, Dock, Beach, and Luau Cove. It is only far from the TTC (and far means 5 minute walk).

You're right. I have the wrong longhouse. I looked at a map and I think the one I stayed at was the Tuvalu, though that name doesn't sound at all familiar to me (maybe it has changed). Anyway, we had a garden view room and it was very beautiful, but far away from everything. Looking at the may again, it felt further away from the GCH than that. And I remember thinking that the resort needed another pool because it took forever to get there.

If you stayed at the resort before 1999 the buildings did have different names.

OLD NAME--NEW NAME

Tahiti--Aotearoa
Fiji--Fiji
Somoa--Tuvalu
Bali Hai--Tonga
Maori--Raratonga
Bora Bora--Niue
Hawaii--Samoa
Tonga--Hawaii
Oahu--Tokelau
Pago Pago--Rapa Nui
Moorea--Tahiti

Sorry I missed this earlier Debbie.:o

I stayed at the WL concierge level in Dec. and I was not impressed with it at all. It is definately not worth the extra money. I agree with the others, the Poly, AKL and the Boardwalk are much, much better.

Well, as of our trip Jan 28th to Feb 7th, Poly concierge has gotten rid of the bottled waters! :fork: Pop (soda, whatever  ) is still available all the time, but that stuff is so bad for you! I had to drink that nasty WDW chlorinated water. :hurl:
