It really depends on how much value you put on the characters. That has value. And it's in a fun iconic location with the monorail coming through overhead. It's not high dining by any stretch though.
What are you looking to get out of dining there and what will make it worth it for you? Are there young kids wanting certain character interaction? Are there fussy kids who will only eat certain things or eat only very small amounts? What time constraints will you have?
Weve enjoyed the buffet in the past. Disneys buffet selections and quality has differed from trip to trip but the food isnt bad to keep us away. On property Dis has over time centered on getting guests in with a passable choice of food and not on quality.... its only a buffet after all. Most families interest is in getting time with the characters. You get to see the monorail pass by.
It was good for Breakfast, the 2 times we did it. Still prefer Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at Grand Floridian over Chef Mickeys. Characters were more fun. Never did a dinner at it.
It's good, but it's not like there is a ton of "high value" items on the buffet that you can stock up on to make the value "worth it". The selection is okay (I think Boma is better) and the views (other than the characters) are pretty bland. Plus, it's really noisy in there. If it were just me? I'd take Boma any day. But with kids? It's a nice way to meet the Fab 5 without the effort of trying to catch up with them separately in the park. Any perceived value for this meal would be in the character interactions and the location (for sure not the food).
1. A buffet where worth is measured by quality (hard to find, but they exist)
2. A buffet where worth is measured by quantity (these are the more abundant)
Regarding Chef Mickey's, it definitely falls into category #2. The question then becomes how much can you eat vs the price you are paying. Then there is also the intangible of getting some photo ops with the characters and the value you place on that.
If you're looking to meet the fab 5 without waiting at meet n greets then its worth it but as far as the food choices and quality its not really worth the price.
I'd much rather choose somewhere like Garden Grill. Food is better IMO, relaxed quiet atmosphere, all you care to eat but you also don't have to get up, more unique characters experiences, plus it rotates.
I may be in minority but I took my five year old grandson last October and we all had a blast! All the characters come to you and the entire family enjoyed their meal. This was dinner and they brought our food to us
We used to go to CM every year as part of our annual routine but the pricing has definitely made us second guess from now on. If you haven't done it before I would say you should try it at least to check that off your bucket list. The food is as worth it as just about any other disney dining buffet. For us, and since we have done it for years, the pricing has made it less of a priority now. Obviously thats just our perspective and hope that helps a little. Have a great trip and enjoy wherever you may roam!
