Hi,
Im new to the board but I love it already. :D
Anyways, I am an irish dancer and my school has applied to dance in Disney World next year around St. Patricks Day. My dance teacher wanted me to think of some places that would be good for dancing because she has to apply to these places separately. So, does anyone have any ideas on where you would like to see or think it would be good to see Irish Dancers around St. Patricks Day?

Raglan Road has Irish dancers and irish music - but I'm not sure if they would allow outside entertainment

I'd like to see them in the England pavillion in Epcot too...

You may want to have your director call the Magic Music Days performance office to have a few things clarified... they will usually give you a choice of locations for each application, rather than opening up every location to pick from. Just an FYI to help out a bit:) Make sure your director chooses early as well, as St Pattie's Day fills up EARLY for MMD. Especially since groups are preparing for Festival Disney at the same time.

OMG, this is so random. It was exactly two years ago today I irish danced at epcot. We danced at the future world stage!!!!! My dance school goes every four years, and each time it changes. But still I think ur teacher should call disney! Good luck!!!!

i'm not sure on disney policy at all but if you could swing it i think a good place would be near the uk pavilion in epcot.

Btw: how come no ireland pavillion, or at least a little more merchandise? i feel so left out.....

When you are at WDW, be sure to say "hi" to Danielle, the Irish dancer who works at Raglan Road at Pleasure Island. She is a sweet girl who loves to chat with people. She toured with Lord of the Dance.
Also, if you go to Epcot, be sure to see a set of Off Kilter, the Celtic rock band who performs at the Canada pavilion. They love Irish dancers! You can just jump up and dance to their music, or you can discuss it ahead of time with them and the bagpiper can play something special for you to dance to! The bagpiper's name is Jamie, his band is usually performing on Sunday - Thursday.
Good Luck!:)

Thanks everyone
all these ideas are great. We have already applied to Disney as a whole but I will def. tell my teacher about Magic Music Days. She told me Disney doesn't pay you to dance. They said its an honor to dance for them. Is this normal?

Same here! I am half Irish and half Spanish/Puerto Rican. There are NO Latin countries represented really... That kinda sucks too.
Oh well can't have everything...

Over in Tampa at Busch Gardens from like mid January until sometime in April they have the Emerald Beat Irish dance show, after that they go to Busch Gardens in Virginia for the rest of the season. They used to have one called Irish Thunder before, and I thought it was a bit better but they're both still very good!!

Yep. MMD is a program that provides a SIGNIFICANT discount on rooms and tickets for performing. I mean HUGE discount. Sometimes over 50% off of both. These programs many times include PAPs (Performing Arts Programs) which provide professional instruction and adjudication from leading performers in each area. Some notable instructors have come from Phantom Regiment, Blast!, Boston Pops, Juliard, NYU, The University of Akron School of Dance and more.

Yes, because then the dance school can put that on their resume, so to speak and tell people how they had a group dance at Disney. Disney doesn't just let anyone dance, they want the best and only allow the best to perform, so it is an honor. It's the same with the bands that play before the parades.
