IPod Battery Question

I'm thinking about buying an IPod (maybe regular, or maybe mini)after I buy a guitar, and I'm just wondering if its true that its battery dies after about a year using it, and you have to buy a new IPod to replace it.

Wow, i've never heard that the battery dies after a year! I hope it's not true, otherwise i'll be VERY upset that I spent $400 bucks on an MP3 player (which erases all files after configuring to another computer!:fork: ) Yesterday I configured my iPod to my new Toshiba laptop, all of the files were erased and now I have to put every single one back on. Also, I have been buying music from Napster for some time now, but yesterday went into a music downloading program to download some WDW songs (One Little Spark, Tomorrow's Child is what I picked up along with a few others). Well, all songs are directly made into Musicmatch Jukebox files, so I go and try opening them in iTunes, which completely messes it up and now when I try to get in, it says "The iTunes Music Library file cannot be read because it does not appear to be a valid library file". I have deleted it from my computer and redownloaded it, but still get the same message. I also am not happy with the battery, after a full night of charging it usually dies before I get to Orlando most of the time, and i'm only 2 hours away. IMO, I really don't recommend iPod anymore, and i've been looking into some other MP3 players, such as the Samsung YP-910GS, which is the official Napster MPE player. It's a 20 GB (what i've got now on the iPod), and it looks really sharp and seems to be a great player. It also has a built-in FM transmitter, unlike the iPod which you must buy a seperate piece. There's a lot more other than the iPod out there, Dell Digital Jukebox is another one that's pretty good as well. But that's just my 2 cents.

aproximately after 2 years
but if yours is still under warrenty they'll replace it
otherwise you can buy one from apple and they'll replace it for like 90 bucks ORRRR you can attempt to replace it yourself
there are very detailed instructions on some websites if you do a google search for IPOD

I know ive said it a million time..but this is yet anothe reason my my NetMD is better..all my data is stored on minidiscs..so they dont get deleted..

And..on a SINGLE AA battery..it lasts about...4 months without needing a replacment (and i use mine OBSESSIVLY..its even hooked up to my car stereo)

NO, it's not true. Many people have had thier iPods since day one and havn't had a single problem. Just because one iPod has a problem, dosn't mean they all do.

Also, if your Pod dose end up with a dead battery and it's out of warrenty, you can pay $99 to get a new battery, or buy one yourself and replace it.

Also, the iPod dose not support WMA, so Napster or any other service dosn't work on the iPod. iTunes does work with the iPod. Also, set the iPod Options to 'Manually Update Songs' so it won't erase songs every time you hook it up to a computer.

Also, my iPod lasts the whole 8-9 hour trip from Cleveland to Richmond. Make sure not to skip around the songs (it spins the hard drive), don't use the backlight excessively, and don't use the Sound Check & EQ to improve battery life. If you only get 2 hours, I think you might want to get it checked out. That's WAY to short.

this was added after ipodsdirtysecret.com came out.. but not necessarily in response. I am certain that had ipodsdirtysecret.com never come out, this would still be happening.

Or the lawsuit about the G3s and DVD playback, the iBook Logic Boards, and many other lawsuits. Many are correct, and others are just there. I know lots of people who have first gen iPods that work VERY well still, and have 9+ hour battery life.

Ok, you got my attention. My dad is going to the US in April and he was bringing me an IPod. So you says Archos is better. What do you suggest, preferably with a link from Amazon so I can print him a picture.

the Archos AV320 is better in that...

A- it has a screen for movie playback
B- comes with DIVX and XVID codecs preinstalled
C- can be used to display images as well
D- and is still a fully functional mp3 player...
