Iphone in the parks

Hi all! Looking to get an Iphone soon and was wondering how they work in the park? Can you pick up a wireless connection or do you have to pay for it? Also I'll have a Canadian phone, does that put a wrinkle in anything?
Thanks for the help!

Based on the reports here (I had a similar question) there is good 3G coverage on AT&T's network, assuming you're able to roam on that one coming from Canada. And in case you hadn't heard, you might want to hold off on the iPhone until June as the 4th gen is due out then.

Make sure you get a roaming data plan or you'll bankrupt yourself using data while in the U.S.

I'm with Robbers, er.... Rogers. They charge $6/MB if you don't have a plan. If you go to the States often, for a $10/month charge, you can use your regular data plan in either Canada or the States with your same data limits. If you travel there less frequently, you can put a US Data add-on on your iPhone for while you're there. There are a number of different options, you'll need to figure out what's best for your expected usage.

Although even with a package it's highway robbery, it's still cheaper that using the resort 'wired' internet access and you can use it wherever you go. I take a laptop to use in the room and tether it to my iPhone.

yeah just checked into it, $20 for 2GB...doesn't seem to bad, especially if you're gonna use it all the time.
2GB would easily cover my usage for a month in the States and that's only two days' on resort wired login. Sounds like a good deal.

I did notice Bell's roaming in the States is the same as Robbers without a plan, $6/MB!

How do you tether it. Would like to do the same with my iPad/iPhone.

iPhone 3.0 has the capability to tether built into the software. Rogers turned on tethering from the release of the software, AT&T did not. There are "ways" to turn on the tethering if you're with AT&T. Google is your friend. :lookaroun

Because my iPhone has it turned on, it works on any carrier. I've used it a few times while in the US.

Now the bad news.... the wireless iPad won't tether with iPhone. If you want 3G you need a 3G iPad.

I love my iPhone, but AT&T's network did not handle the Magic Kingdom's holiday crowds well, either during Christmas or Easter. The majority of data request I made during Christmas (mostly web browsing) failed to complete. Many times I couldn't make or receive calls. Those that I could make had terrible sound quality. I stopped using the phone inside the Magic Kingdom as it was useless.

The other parks seem to be better.

I had the same problem Thanksgiving week in 2009.

I have many complaints in with ATT because of that same issue. So far they have done nothing. If its one thing ATT is good at, it's doing nothing.

Actually if you're jailbroken you can get the MiWi app for the iPhone and it turns the phone into a WiFi access point -- then your iPad sees it as any other WiFi AP. I don't have it as I prefer the native tethering myself, but it has received great reviews.

Droid is going to strangle itself with so many different versions of its phones... and different features depending on the model. How can it make $$ if development and fabrication costs have to go into each and every model of phone they design??

Anyway... Yes... 3G coverage for the iPhone is great across all of the resort.

Not sure when you are going but one interesting and unreliable wrinkle we found during the Food and Wine fesitval last year is that unsecured WiFi connections would pop up that you could piggyback on.

I'm sure it had to do with the additional kiosk, but when they were available the data moved much faster.
