Invictus Games impact on Coronado Springs?

Arriving at WDW on May 9th-15th. Originally had not been able to book Coronado Springs (our fave resort) but a room opened up yesterday with passholder discount and I switched it. Today decided to look at calendar and saw this event is going on then. How bad will it affect the resort? There have been conventions going on before when have went but nothing this big I don't think. I really love Coronado but if it is going to insane maybe I should switch? Also, will this affect park crowds? I had no idea it was going on when I booked.
Thanks!

How bad will it affect the resort? Really? If anything it will bring some truly remarkable people there.

My guess is that the Invictus Games will have minimal effect on the parks.
The 500 competitors and their entourage's will be like a raindrop in the ocean to the theme areas.
CSR on the other hand is, to the best of my knowledge, almost completely booked from 5/2 to 5/18.
We'll be there starting on the 13th and are expecting to run into a very crowded resort situation.
I fully support the Invictus Games and what they are accomplishing for the wounded and disabled veterans.
However I sincerely hope that the Management at CSR and the transportation logistics people have considered the effect of upwards of five hundred special needs guests being located in the same resort.

I knew I should have edited my post to add, 1. I think it is an awesome thing, 2. I reguarly donate to Wounded Warrior. 3. We may even try to go see some of the events if we can.
All I wondered is if something of this size was taking place, when we are used to a dead Coronado, in late August-September should we stay somewhere else? I like Coronado because it is never crowded.

I fully support it as well. Have never been to Coronado in a booked situation before, always plenty of rooms. I first thought it was just not available for passholder rates. Just questioning a packed full resort vs. a lesser booked one, even though it is my first choice.

That resort has 1917 rooms. Even if each of the competitors takes 2 rooms, that still only fills half of the resort. Per the event site, they also have rooms available at All-Star Sports.

The events are being held at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

Events like this usually have dedicated transportation to and from the event venue (WWoS).

I don't think there will be any issues.

Thank you so much. I have been trying to book it for a month and no availability until yesterday. I snagged it, today no rooms again, so when I saw the event, it just made me second guess switching from CBR. I also have never been in May and we did all this very short notice, rather than planning forever, so I am basically second guessing everything.

Good luck with May. We too go in May and often in September. It is more crowded in May, just seems busier in general. I guess because of Flower and Garden and SWW and other special events, plus end of the school year school trips. Late August, early September after school starts and before the halloween stuff starts seems less busy to us.

We are going back then. August-September, This was just a delayed new AP trip, we wanted to go late February but we became grandparents early and had to cancel. Fisrt ever solo trip for us, with no kids, so we are looking to be a little more laid back, if not on crowds maybe but actually relaxing more at the resort. Thank you and hope you have an amazing trip when you go!
