We are going to Disney and traveling Interstate 75 from Ohio -- according to all maps we must go to Tampa to get Turnpike 4 -- is there a place to cut off to get to Disney without traveling all the way to Tampa then backtracking??????

This needs to be in the Trip Planning category, but that's allright.

You will be taking I4 when you are in Florida, but there are exits to get on the correct roads to Disney. When will you be going? From my understanding, they are doing some construction on roads now and some of the signs may be confusing to the tourists.

there's a way. I-75 to Florida's Turnpike Southbound will get you right into Orlando without backtracking.

Thank you --- we are going in September. On our last trip we took 77 to 95 and it seemed to take us way out of our way -- our turnpikes in Ohio are fee based so I just assumed Floridas' was also. I also realized when I posted this it was under the wrong catagory but not use to this web yet to get items changed - I posted then realized.

How on earth did you get from I-75 to I-95??? Unless you took 10 in north FL or 16 in Georgia, I just see that as crazy. Now if you really went all the way to Miami and around, well wow.

I really don't trust things like mapquest so much, they are good for somethings but others they arn't, and its not really there fault, its the database they are built on.

I would highly recommend getting a book called "the road atlas", each year has its own edition so be sure to get the 05 one. I travel way to much in my little care and it comes in handy so much. It also lets you know a lot of things about major citites and what nots on the way. So yeah its beyond worth the 10 bucks I spent on mine.

(also get the little one, unless you are blind or a trucker its just to big)

I said I went 77 not 75 --- 77 starts here in Ohio -- then to 95 -- no where did I say I went 75. Oh, and I had directions from three places to get there - just thought 75 would give us a change of scenery - also - 75 goes through Ohio. I was just interested in knowing if there was a cut off instead of going all the way to Tampa first to get the Turnpike.

Dave,

Not sure how you got to Tampa without going through Orlando on I-4. My atlas shows taking 77 to 95 then south on 95 through Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Daytona Beach. Then go south on I-4 to Orlando. Since I-4 runs right next to WDW you shouldn't need to get on the turnpike at all.

If you've never been I-95 in South Carolina and Georgia, it is a very nice drive. Hope this helps.

Good good, I must have read the 77 to cast and seeing as you last post said 75 I just took it for granted.

Glade you know about the turnpike now. If you really want to get into it, you can take the roll road 429 off the turnpike and get on 535. I have yet to see if that is any faster then going all they way to 4 and then driving down but it is a change of things.

From I-75, we get on the turnpike a few minutes past Ocala (Wildwood?). We've always gotten off at the Orlando/I-4 exit, and took I-4 west. The last time I went(12/03), it appeared the there are additional exits for WDW. Are there? I didn't really want to experiment on my two first time/ been in a car for 10 hours guests.
I get so excited when I get off the turnpike and love to see all of the new construction along the Interstate. I can remember before Universal, etc. was built and there used to be a long stretch of land until the Christian campground.

There are a number of way to go from Ohio to Florida. All offer nice drives and a change of scenery.

You could take I-77 to where in ends in South Carolina then go on I-26 for about 1 hour until it cross I-95 then down to I-4 and to Disney. This is not a bad drive and the cities you go through would be Jacksonville, Charlotte and the outskirts of Columbia.

Going down I-75 you would only have to take down to the head of the Turnpike in Wildwood. From there you have a couple of options, 1 is to take the Turnpike down to I-4, depending on the time of day this could be trouble. We normal get off on U-27 and take it south to US-192 to Disney this removes all of Orlando and it's traffic from you. The problem with this route is timing, you go through 3 MAJOR traffic area in Cincinnati, Knoxville and Atlanta. With Cincinnati and Atlanta about 8 hours apart it would be possible to hit both during rush hour and that is not a good thing.

Another option which wouldn't add to much time to your trip would be to go I-75 to I-40 in Knoxville, then head East to you hit I-26 in Ashville then go down to I-95 and so on....

Of course most traffic issues go away if you a traveling on Saturday or Sunday. Also remembe that on Friday's rush hour in Atlanta starts about 3 PM with people getting of work early for long weekends.
