Internet killed the World Showcase films.

While I agree with all the points raised by others, i would be disappointed if they messed with the Norway infomercial. The unintended creepy factor is awesome

I still get a little dizzy during some of the fly-overs in China and Canada. Youtube can't give you that.

That is exactly what DH would say, after watching them on YouTube, lol. Because of his issue we haven't seen the films in a few years (also they haven't changed :(). I am hoping to introduce DD4 to them soon though, at least they will be new to her!

I still stay and watch the films. Of course they should be redone/updated every so often, but the experience isnt ruined for me by the internet access. I think it's a nice added piece to the what the countries bring to the showcase. It highlights some nice features. I'm not using the films to make a decision on booking a trip but its further entertainment for the time I'm at that country.

I love the China movie. I don't get the same experience on the computer.

Impressions of France is a great one, too. I suppose it would be good at home, but its a good break from the heat. :)

The Canada movie is cute, but I don't like the song.

Norway...well, Maelsrom is one of my favorite rides in all of WDW, so that makes up for the movie...which sucks.

Why is it creepy?
Ive watched it too many times, I like it alot. Even though its outdated. Problem is noone wants to pay for a new one. Disney wants a crazy amount to do it, and they wont use anything the tourism board have made even if they got it for free.

I do agree on this posting, cause it might be better ways to show cultures.

We were laughing when they showed the Commodore 64 in the Norway video. It's a laughable joke. While I don't have any problems with pavilions showing films, it's ridiculous at this point at how dated it is.

The film in France makes me sleepy.
And I think that is what it is supposed to do. It's to make you relax. It's not the film though it's the music which is beautiful and calming. I am not a standard fan of classical music normally, but that selection combined with the film is outstanding. As a people we are sometimes the victim of our own pre-conceived notions.:) If anyone remembers the ending of Ocean 11 you will recognize some of the music.

Canada, reminded me of the 360 film that I saw for the first time at Expo 67 in Montreal. In fact, I would bet that some of it came from there. It is a full on attack on the senses and now is hard to find. The rest have disappeared. I'm glad they updated it and put in the Martin Short humor, it helped it a lot. :D

I confess that I have never seen China's but I have made a mental note to get there on my next trip.

Norway...what can I say about Norway's film. I watched it the first time through and since then I have just skipped through the theater. They might have even changed it from the early 80's, I wouldn't know, haven't watched it again.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show. Maybe creepy wasn't the right word. It's just the first half of it, at least to me, is a little dark.

Norway hasn't changed their film at all.
Unfortunately!

The issue here is that no one wants to pay for a new movie.
Norway owned the pavilion until 1992, when Disney bought it back with Norway as a sponsor until 2002. Disney thinks Norway should pay for the update, at the insane price of 5 million USD, but Norway thinks Disney should do it because they own it and make all the money out of it.

Norway have offered Disney a free use (and raw material to edit as they like) of Norways official promotion film "Norway - Powered by Nature". Disney declines this... :(

Here´s the full version of the movie if you have time to see what its really like.

I love the two circlevision 360s and Impressions. France and Canada could use some high def updating for sure. Actually, if you re-shot Canada with the original pre-Martin Short script, it would awesome. Besides, Canada is a lifeline of wonder on this planet earth. The film in Norway isn't worth commenting on unless they change it so that caressing a boat causes troll to pop out.

You aren't allowed to take footage inside of some of those buildings in the French film. It's highly unlikely that Disney would ever be allowed to film in there again, and any internet footage was taken illegally. Disney had to get special permission to film some of these shots. Disney just gave the film an update, so it looks better even though it's the same footage.

The Circle Vision films are cool. Some of those shots are only ones you can get from the air, which would not be on Youtube. Although I like the idea of seats, capacity-wise standing makes more sense. And they would have to be stools. No telling what guests would do with revolving seats.

Before putting in Space Mountain, Disney considered a Matterhorn, but because of how Fantasyland is shaped, it wasn't practical at the time. Space Mountain has a similar track to Matterhorn. IMO, Matterhorn should remain unique to Disneyland simply because of its historical significance.

The original plans for World Showcase included a roller coaster at the UK along with some additional rides (I think some sort of ride at China). Spacing was an issue and this is why it never came to pass. I wouldn't mind a few more rides, perhaps a roller coaster, at World showcase as long as it doesn't impact the view. Like I said, it's more of a spacing issue than anything. Perhaps they can take out that building that they used for the millennium celebration and put a ride in (although they do use this building on occassion. Then again, they've already got two useless buildings in Odyssey and Wonders of Life). Or take out the African station and put a themed coaster in. But I don't know the spacing and exact requirements, so I can't really say.

The Norwegian film is pointless. I agree on that. I just think they don't know what to do about it. I personally like just walking around World Showcase and enjoying the ambiance. If I want to ride something, I go over to Future World. Usually, I only ride Soarin', Living with the Land, Nemo, Captain EO, and Spaceship Earth. I don't like the revamped Test Track, so I skip it, and Mission: Space is no fun. I only ride that if coerced. The last time I got on Orange my screen kept flipping off and I felt like I actually might need a space sickness bag.

If it were up to me Mexico would get Royal Di Tempo back, Norway... I would just keep up the good work of not screwing up maelstrom, Itally could use a good boat ride, Germany could use an Imax and Oh Canada would would be replaced by the same 4 seasons show they performed at the 2010 Wilter Olimpics opening ceremony including all projections.

Maybe my appreciation for all of the World Showcase films has clouded my objectivity but I personally don't buy the notion that the internet has lessened the impact or relevance of any of these films. Beyond the already stated fact that you cannot even properly capture a Circle-Vision or large-format film there is so much more to seeing those films than just the image on the screen.

I find the Impressions De France theater really attractive and a nice place to relax. While the film itself is clearly dated it is still beautiful and the combination of the theater, film, and outstanding soundtrack really adds up to a very enjoyable experience and one of my "must do" attractions.

While the nature of the presentation doesn't allow for particularly attractive theaters I find the queue/holding area for both China and Canada's Circle-Vision films to be very nice and a great opportunity to chat with Cast Members.

Of all of the films Norway's is the hardest to defend, as it has such an unfortunate location and seems to have aged the worst even though it is the newest, but I still enjoy it.

In all of the films it is obvious that fashion, technology, and in several cases the actual sights themselves have changed quite a bit in the last 25-30 years, I feel that the message and the natural beauty of all of these places are still represented very well.

I disagree completely. Watching the movie on a 15" screen and watching it completely surrounded by giant screens are two completely different things. I agree they all could use a facelift and definitely need to be HD, but I think they are a vital part of world showcase.

AND...I don't think every attraction at WDW needs to be a ride. The AA shows, live shows, and movies are what separates WDW from other amusement parks.

And Circlevision is way beyond simply watching the video itself... much like Soarin' is much more than simply watching a video while seated.

Hmm... You know, one or two more Soarin'-style attractions doesn't sound too bad. "Soarin' Over China"...It's got a nice ring to it, yes?

Well using that logic, the internet has killed all attractions at Disney, since you can find videos of every ride online with little effort.

I think more than anything, with the advent of mobile video viewing on our phones and such, that simply having a 25+ year old video about a country is not enough to pique someones interest. They need to have a gimmick to pull people in and keep them coming back. Heck I think simply making new films in digital format and offering them in Ultra HD would make a huge difference.

Agreed. Synching Youtube with a home theatre is the closest you'll ever really get to cinema quality. It's like what David Lynch said about watching movies on iPods. This is kind of why I like Soarin'...it does quite magnificent and relevant things with such a simple concept going back as old as the CircleVision films.

IdF stays. The rest I couldn't really care less about (even the canucking motherland).
