Internet in hotel rooms.

I'm gonna be going in September, I was wondering what sort of internet is available there, specifically in the Boardwalk? Is there internet in the rooms, should I bring a travel router, do I have to pay, should I arrange this in advance... etc.?

This is my first time taking my laptop anywhere but home, so I apologize for the newb questions. :)

Hello...all of the Disney Resorts have high speed internat access for $9.95 this is for a 24 hour period fro example, from 9A.M. to 9 A.M. Some of the resorts Boardwalk included has Wireless available but only in the main areas. The cost of thes is $4.99 for the first 60 minutes or $9.95 for 24 hours. We used the regular high speed internet and they just bill it to your room and they supply the cable that stays in the room! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply! Should I call ahead to arrange this, or can they take care of it at the front desk when you check in?

You can set it all up from your room:
-Bring your laptop and connect the modem cable
-Turn laptop on and open internet browser (e.g. IE or Firefox)
-Follow the easy steps provided to connect to the net (internet time charged to your room.)

Hope that helps!

Am I the only one that finds that a bit pricey?

Depends on how much you need it. If you need it for work or something, then no it isn't. But if its just 'to check email' then it can be.

I would guess in about 5 years it will be free, once they recoup what they've spent to install it.

Well, that's something to look forward to. :)

We'd need it for personal use, work and school. If it was just one day, I wouldn't blink but by the end of our trip it'd be more than I pay for internet, cable and phone at home.

Hmmm...been meaning to find out how that whole aircard thing works.

I'm sorry..I am very technologically hindered...where do you get the cable from? Is it something you bring from home?
You'll need an ethernet cable [the cable that connects your computer to your modem or router], there is a cable provided in the rooms, if it isn't there, call Mousekeeping and they'll bring one, no charge [don't take it home though].

The ethernet cable has connectors at either end that look like a phone plug on steroids. You can't plug it into the phone jack on your laptop, it'll only fit the ethernet jack.

Cellular Broadband signals (aka Aircard) at WDW are pretty strong. I have tried it at POP, PO:R, and CB and it works just fine. The only place I could not get a signal on my aircard was at the Customs House in CB (where you check in/out and wait for the DME) Of course I guess it all depends on who you have service with.

Being with Rogers Cellular, I'm better off paying the $9.95/24 hours! Rogers charges ridiculous bandwidth rates.

The cables are usually in a gray bag hanging on a hanger in the closet.

Also, in order to save some $$ what we do is go on late one night so we have the service the next morning and evening.

Disney will never give away what they can charge for. I doubt they will ever give it away for free. They may however change the pricing or add a price for a week. Sort of a bulk discount to draw in more users.

Well look at my screen name. :D

I work in telecomm. I won't say for who, but my aircard (which is a company one) is $79/month for unlimited bandwidth.

I travel for business about once a month, so it saves any hotel costs, plus I can use it during meetings or in airports. Heck, I was on the Acela from Newark to Baltimore (and back) last week. What would have been 4 hours of nap time turned into 4 hours of productive work.

Rogers is going to have to revisit their rates, they would currently be the only likely carrier for iPhone in Canada, but it'll never be marketable at their current rates.
