I've read about this International Gateway??? a second entrance to Epcot? I don't recall ever seeing this in my 4 previous visits to The World and Epcot is my FAVORITE park? What is the purpose of this entrance? Where does it go? Any benefits for me staying in POP? I am completely baffled about this? Please help!!!

So spending the day in Epcot and leaving via International Gateway to get to Boardwalk to have dinner at Cat Cora's new restaurant and walk back to Epcot would be a good choice then. I believe her new place is at Boardwalk right?

This would work, as long as you are planning to return to Epcot before the park closes. Once the park is closed, you will not be able to come back in for any reason, even if you are parked in the main lot. If that will be the case, you will need to walk or take the boat to DHS (provided it is still open at the time) and then take a bus to Epcot, which will drop you off at the main entrance.

While the Monorail resorts are awesome. Proximity to Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Boardwalk make the Epcot resorts the Garden spot of Disney World in my opinion. There's not a view anywhere on property I'd rather than overlooking the Boardwalk and Cresent lake.

Close, it's between UK and France. It provides access to the Boardwalk resorts and restaurants and pedestrian or boat access to DHS. Thus is of great advantage to numerous people besides those staying at the resorts.
We are thinking of going to boardwalk and beaches and cream while at Epcot. We are not staying in any of the resorts. Can we still use this as an exit to go to these two places and then an entrance to get back to Epcot?

Definitely, as long as you go back to epcot before closing. There's no requirement of staying at an epcot area resort to access the boardwalk.

Thank you. How long does it take to walk to boardwalk from here because we have never been to Boardwalk before and have heard it is worth a visit. What do you think

Just wanted to toss up a link to my "Disney Stuff" google map showing the where the International Gateway is:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...986,-81.552576&spn=0.002431,0.003712&t=h&z=18

The yellow line is the path to the Entrace/Exit and out to the resorts.

Thanks so much for the map! The distance does not appear to be bad at all. Boardwalk is basically down the water way and across the small bridge to the left. Will have to look at those resorts for future visits! To be so close to World Showcase is almost a dream come true! It's amazing how much you learn when planning each visit!!

The walk is very short and very enjoyable. The landscaping and all the wildlife always makes me feel better. It is just beautiful. DH and I both love Epcot (it is our fav park) and are going to stay at the Beach Club just because it is so close and convenient to Epcot.

If you walk over to the Boardwalk and don't leave before Epcot closes, you can take a bus from the Boardwalk to another park that is open later OR DTD then back to your resort.....that is IF you are staying on property and took the bus to Epcot to begin with.

Isn't Disney transportation great! In case there is confusion, you don't have to be staying on property or taken a bus to begin with. Anyone can use the transportation, even back to the TTC and your vehicle. You can probably hop on a boat to DHS too and catch a bus from there.

We are thinking of going to beaches and cream and boardwalk on one of our epcot days. Is it best to park at epcot or can someone suggest somewhere better. P.s we are not staying on site so will have to drive in.

I don't know if you'd call it a benefit but since DHS is practically across the street from POP, you can do an easy park hopper day between DHS and then take the boat over to the International Gateway entrance into EPCOT.

Thanks JiminyandTink, I was wondering about that. Now I ask where is the boat launch at DHS that goes to Epcot? Another thing that I learned from this thread.

Right after you exit the park, you'll see signs (I think to the left) for the Friendship boat dock. Taking the boat between DHS and Epcot is a tradition for me, I love starting the day in DHS and ending it with IllumiNations.

if it is an impromtu thing, and you end up in the Epcot resort area and the IG is closed, and you are parked at the main Epcot lot, it is about a $8-10 cab ride to the Epcot transportation area (where the busses and cabs stop), then a short walk to the Epcot main entrance, where you can catch the tram to your car. This is assuming that it is within a short amount of time after park closing that the tram is still running. The cabs cannot take you directly to your car without paying the parking, although if you can find a cab that will take the chance, the parking kiosks are usually not manned late at night. But it they are, and you can't do enough fast talking, you may end up paying an extra $11 (or whatever it is now) to get to your car.

The launch is just to the left as you exit DHS - the opposite direction from the parking. Very convenient.

I planned one day to visit Epcot, and to end up late at night at the Beach club. I valet parked at the beach club and walked to Epcot IG, then back to the Beach Club for late night snacks and picked up the car there. You don't have to be staying at the Beach Club, or even a WDW resort to do this, and the valet parking is good for the whole day. It costs about the same, or perhaps a bit more than the main parking, and it's perfectly within the rules. If this fits into your plans, then I would recommend valet parking at the Beach Club.

Of course, if you are staying on site, you normally don't pay for parking, so you end up paying more for the valet service. But it's an ideal solution for off-site guests.

But, if you have the Disney Dining Experience (or whatever it's called now - the name has changed) you get valet parking free. When I had the DDE, it was free whether you were dining at the resort or not, so we sometimes used it to park at a resort for other reasons (like in the above example). I don't know what the rules are now, but if you are staying on site, and have the DDE (or whatever) it gives you more options.
