Very informative and good reporting too. Reporting was so much less polarizing and controversial back then. It is almost as if today they need to create such division because people wouldn't pay attention anymore, which is sad.

But you know, WDW did so much for Central Florida. Before 1971 the only thing there was Cypress Gardens if I recall. Without WDW there is no Sea World, no Universal and no Orlando Magic franchise. Maybe some residents didn't like their town being turned into the vacation destination of the world, but it helped the economy in that area.

I don't think there is anything you can do about the places that exploit Disney. It will happen regardless. I think the difference is that at WDW it isn't just right across the street like in Disneyland. Hence, the extra land being bought so that it sort of seperates you from the real world. But you find this anywhere. In Niagara Falls there are lots of shops, lots of ways that the Falls gets exploited that wouldn't be there in the first place without the Falls. Its inevitable and I don't think it hurts anyone.

I love it being called "The Disney Government." Pretty accurate actually ;P
But it gives me the image of people standing before a Mickey Mouse flag with their hands on their hearts as they recite the Disney national anthem; "Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me?..." XD
