*let me just clarify this is nothing more than ideas/wishful thinking...
ok, so love it or hate it (personally i lean more towards the hate end of the spectrum) the people of the disney mgm studios decided to plop an enormous tacky-looking hat in the heart of mgm. IMO it takes away from that feel yo used to have of walking down the 'mainstreet' towards the beautiful chinese theater replica, it doesnt seem right you know?
anyway so for a while rumors were flying about why the hat was really there, or how long it was going to be there, etc.
[as you probably remember, rumors indicated (this one seemed most logical to me) that the hat was simply going up to cover the major rehab of the GMR exterior/chinese theater fascade. after visiting and seeing in person the massive amount of work that was going on, this rumor seemed very reasonable; it would be like seeing cinderella castle completely covered in tarps, and the pointed roofs from the towers removed. anyway- it just made sense that they wanted to cover it up, and hey, when you could say you were planning t do it anyway in celebration of the 100yom celebration- why not!?
so this is where the wheels in my head start turning; how long do you guys think it will stick around..?
my initial thoughts/wishful thinking; i thought it could be removed by this winter, because the exterior rehab of GMR is complete, and the hat now stands where the christmas tree would go
*ok, just realized the hat was already in place for xmas 2002 -so where did the xmas tree go for that year?*
anyway my thought was that they wouldnt place a tree in that would cover up the hat that was covering the chinese theater.
so all these ideas of the hat coming down by the end of this year didnt seem too far-fetched to me... HOWEVER, the hat has not only become the new icon on park maps, etc. but the hat logo can now also be found on tons of studio's mercandise... so honestly i have no idea anymore-
what do you guys think..?
(sorry if this thread has been done before, but ive never seen one...)
