Ouch!

From Bloomberg.com

"Universal Studios Japan Visitors Fall 30% in Second Year
By Ian Messer

Osaka, Japan, April 1 (Bloomberg) -- Universal Studios Japan Inc., a movie theme park affiliated with Vivendi Universal SA, attracted 30 percent fewer visitors in its second year of operation.

The amusement park, which opened in March 2001, drew 7.64 million visitors in the twelve months ended yesterday, it said in a faxed release. Visitors fell short of the parks' own lowered target of 8 million customers. Its original target was 9 million. "

This doesn't bode very well for them. Still a very decent attendance level, but to see a drastic drop like that can't be very good for Universal. Maybe it could be because DisneySeas opened to such huge attendance levels (???).

I wonder if this will affect Universal's decisions on building a park in China. I think they should figure out what went wrong here and fix the problems the entire company is in right now before expanding. Hopefully they can turn things around!

Well that show on channel 162 turned out to be a show about Disney. The title of the show is "Fast Times". I've included a pic from the shows description. If you can't tell the digital cable is screwing up badly, and I'm gonna have to try this again later. I'm planning on recording it. OHHH wait a sec I just saw a pic of a dino from Jurassic Park, I guess its Universal and Disney! YAY!

Umm where is the browse button to post a pic? I'm guessing I have to use the new members pictures thing?

They had some very serious scandals last year, some of them based on incorrect information (a misfiled report on fireworks usage made the local authorities believe that the park was using too much pyro), and many others based on reality (one of the big ones was untreated industrial water accidentially being used at the park. And even worse than that was the park's former head chef, who was using EXPIRED food on a regular basis in the park's restuarants. Some of it was over a year old!)

Its a shame, because by all accounts USJ is the best Studio park that Universal has ever done.

Yea, that's what I've heard too. Very well done with actual "lands" themed for different movies, like Jurassic Park. That's why I was surprised to see such a drastic decline. Its a true shame about the food and water. Apparently, it is something they need to bouce back from. It seems to have produced some very bad public perception.

Well, if this is what caused the drop, it probably won't effect future parks then, as long as they can prevent this from happening again :)
