Initial payment when booking?

I went to book my trip today through a local travel agent and she told me that she needed $950 upon booking. We are flying with Delta and did last year but I thought all that had to be put down on the booking date was $200? If anyone out there might be able to help me on this I would be very grateful. We did book with a Disney Visa card this year as opposed to a debit card if that makes a difference. But it delayed our booking today!!!

Hi Disney Dude!
$200 to hold the land portion of your vacation. If you booked air thru your local travel agent, airfare is due at time of booking. :)

I have to ask, does using a travel agent actually save any money? I have never used one. I have always just booked my stuff through Disney, granted I am usually using a Pin code or Passholder Discount and just book my flight through United (whose prices have gotten outrageous since they merged). Thanks!

Good question...It seems to me that they aren't any cheaper they just do the planning for you. That's half the fun for me. My last 4 trips I also went through Disney.

I don't use a TA. I Do my own booking and planning. That is exactly the fun of it. While I thought I would try to use a TA.....won't mention any company names....they were very rude and never returned my calls.

agreed...as of today we have 472 days till our next WDW trip...yes thats far but my family and I are our own travel agents! theres nothing better than putting together your own iten., discussing what rest. we may eat at, looking at reviews of possible choices, etc...same for which parks we choose. We usually decide what parks we go to based off of extra magic hours....the details of planning a WDW trip are like someone said above...its half the fun!!

One Little Spark...
For Disneyworld and Disneyland, it is $200 down for each reservation (keep that in mind if you decide to stay at more than one resort during your visit!)

Unless, as noted, your reservation package is booked within 45 days, where a higher down payment, or even payment in full may be requested depending on how far out you are from your travel dates.

Slightly off topic, but the Cruise Line does not operate with a flat $200 down payment, and will require a portion (1/3, I think) of your total trip to be paid at the time you make the reservation. Additionally, the cruise line requires that the trip be paid out in full well before WDW oe DLC does, so running the expense to the very last minute is not as doable for DCL.

the only time i ever saw them require more than the $200 was if you booked a package (not just a room only) less than 45 days before your stay. happened to my sister last summer.
I recently booked a package: room, tickets, dining plan. Only had to put down $200 initial deposit.

Yes it has. My travel has booked us through 3 different companies and she always checks to see who has the best overall package. Some have better room rates, others have better ticket packages (including rec, disney quest, water park as perks) one package gave us free breakfast at QS or TS each day when free dining was not in effect during off season. Some packages came with rental car included. The last time I booked through our travel agent we received 2 golf hats with 4 pins on each.

Also, if your flight is delayed or your reservation is messed up when you arrive in the World a simple call to the travel agent and they fix it. I just read a thread about difficulties a member had at the Poly and wound up at Beach Club as a result. A travel agent would have fixed it while they were still in the Poly lobby.

Lately I just get to have my DS do it through the hub. Nothing beats that perk.
