Information on "The Wild"

I could find any information about this anywhere on the net, but I read this in Disney Magazine

The Wild

A different menagerie romps through The Wild: the residents of a Manhattan zoo. At night, after the zoo closes, the animals show their true colors-playing games, putting on shows, and generally whooping it up. When rambunctious lion cub Ryan becomes trapped in a truck whose contents are headed to Africa, it sets off a mad, alligator-led search-and-rescue mission through the sewers of New York. Expect to get Wild in 2006.

This one sounds really good. Anyone know of any concept art or anything?

I think it sounds like a great storyline for Disney! I hope it's animated! I read about it in the Disney Visa Cardholder's newsletter! Can't wait to see it!

I just tried checking into the information on this movie, since it is supposedly coming out this year, and I am confused with what I found. This is being billed as a Disney movie however it is only being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. WDP had nothing to do with its production (as far as I have found out)(most of the information I got off of IMDB by the way).
The only other movie coming out that is labeled like this is "Ratatouille" by Pixar. But that is of course because the Disney buy out of Pixar isn't final yet. All other Disney/Pixar movies are co-produced and distributed by Disney. Even "Valiant" which was made through another movie alliance was coproduced by WDP. So does anybody know what is going on or what the deal is with "The Wild"? I mean can you consider it a Disney movie if all Disney is doing is selling it to a theater?

"The Wild" was made by another company and is being distributed by Disney..thus it will hold the Disney name on it's title and will be distributed on video/DVD by Disney. It's very similar to Valiant in that aspect, the film is made and produced by a different company and Disney puts its name on it and distributes it.

If you wanna know about the story....just take 75% Madgascar, 25% Finding Nemo and this is basically whatcha get. It is a film of pop culture references with animals that live...coincidentally...at the Central Park Zoo.

Here's a preview....

http://disney.go.com/disneymotion/showcase/index.html

if you don't see "The Wild" under the selections...click on the "movies" tab and it should be on the bottom. It makes you watch a commercial first and then the preview/trailer thing will start.

Uh...have any of you noticed that it's like the SAME plot as Madagascar? Hopefully Disney can do a better job at "The Wild" since Madagascar stunk pretty bad.

If I remember correctly there was something with the writer/creator that happened where it took a similar idea to dreamworks, where they rushed it through production to make Disney look like the one who copied. Then again, maybe I'm just making this up. :lookaroun

They ran a preview of this before 8 BELOW...it looks cute, and not at all like Madagascar, although the backgrounds might as well be the exact same CGI drawings...

But it's different from Valiant in the respect that Disney helped to make Valiant (not just distribute it).........they paid to help produce it........they were listed as a production company.

I heard that somewhere too, but I didn't know if it was just a rumor.

Although look at past dreamworks projects...

Antz - Bugs Life
Sharktale- Finding Nemo
this...
and then on another thread someone wrote that dreamworks is coming up with something similar to the new movie Pixar wants to do after Cars

Thank you! I've waited two years for someone to answer my question, now my life is worth living. ( this thread is 2 years old BTW )

BTW, I take back what I said 2 years ago about how I thought it was a great story, because its clearly a rip-off of Madagascar and Finding Nemo judgeing by the trailer.

Disney paid for the title Producer...they didn't actually animate any of the Valiant movie. It's kinda along the lines of, "we'll distribute your movie and give you a cut of the profits if you let us place producer on the film." A producer is actually a person/persons who helps the project along either financially or through distribution. The title doesn't always imply that that person/persons actually had anything production work involved with the film. If I can come up with an example, I'll post it...I'm thinking perhaps Raiders of the Lost Ark - it was Spielbergs film, but George Lucas funded the project (only problem is - George got a ton of creative input....)

 Yeah, I found it odd that in the other thread you were saying that you couln't believe Disney would greenlight something like this, and then here in this thread you were praising it. But then I realized this thread was 2 years old.

I personally am looking forward to this- a lot. First of all, that koala in the trailer is way cute. Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen a koala in any of these films before. Plus, they're running wild around one of my favorite cities in the world- I don't really see what isn't to like about this.

I will be interested to see how this turns out. I saw the standup ad at my local theater this past weekend. I wonder how much it can possibly distance from Madagascar. However, while I don't want Disney to take the low ground, I am kinda glad they are st__________g it back to Dreamworks in a sense after the "make a Pixar movie concept - copy it at Dreamworks" trend.

The Dreamworks ripping off Disney could be argued either way....Dreamworks had films like Antz and Sharktale in production long before Pixar announced their films. This doesn't mean that maybe Pixar was just sitting on these ideas and hadn't started work on them, but it doesn't also mean that PDI didn't come up with the ideas first.

I think it might be a little unfair to say that Dreamworks is ripping Disney off, when the truth may be that it is actually Disney ripping them off. This, tho, is something that no one will ever admit to...and thus will remain a mystery forever.

This was going to be my argument as well. Plus, in the trailer- it looks like they are running all over NY- I saw them in Times Square...in Madagascar, they were mostly in Africa or wherever they went. And regardless, Madagascar was an enjoyable film- so if it has similarities, I don't oppose :)
