My husband recently registered at a boat show to win a vacation. A company called Resort Tours & Accommodations phoned tonight to tell us he had been picked. Come to find out, it's not a free vacation, but a "highly discounted" vacation to Disney World & Daytona Beach. We have been to Disney several times, but have never stayed off property. The hotel they are setting us up in is the Maingate Clarion Resort. I did a forum search, but the only thing that came up was a thread from 2010, so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone had any more recent info. Anybody know anything about the resort and/or the "travel agency" ? I've always been weary of phone scams, but in this case they did mention the boat show where my husband registered. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

We did something like that years ago and it ended up being Westgate and we had to listen to a 4 hour sales blah.. blah... blah.... time share! We tried to tell them we had DVC but they would not listen to no... After several hours we finally got out of there.. For our family its just not worth giving up a day... I would ask them if you have to listen to a "presentation"..? :)

Yeah, they told us 90 minutes with a free lunch. I'm more concerned about being scammed by the company & the hotel being nasty. Usually I go with my gut, but it's not telling me anything right now. :-/

Time Share vacations and the accompanying sales pitch come with strictly enforced Florida State laws attached. They are the toughest in the country, I used to be a real estate agent here. Florida only has reciprocating RE licenses with two states. Any one coming in as RE from another state must take extremely tough tests.
If they say 90 minutes get up and walk out after 90 minutes and make sure you get what ever gift they promised. If they try and pass you off to other person usually a manager with a "Better deal" say no and get out.
Make sure you get everyone's name if they pressure you report them to the Fl. RE Board trust me they do not want them coming into their offices.
Believe it or not you are in control.

BTW we did a Marriot one to Hawaii and paid an up front $499 fee and got a week in Hawaii, rental car and discounted flights. After the pitch we said no and they asked why we came...We said would you pass up a week in Hawaii at such a discounted price just for a 90 minute pitch...then we walked away to continue our trip. Just make sure it is a reputable company

Time share people cannot keep you one minute longer than that and you should get your free ticket or whatever. You may have to tell them to go to hell and demand whatever it is, but by law, they must give it to you.

If you are at all wishy-washy, you'll end up sitting there forever, politely declining to buy stuff they will seriously pressure you to buy. It's a LOT of headache for a free ticket or two.

The only reason to even consider doing it is if you cannot afford to buy the tickets and are desperate to go to WDW.

That's if it is a time-share thing. Could just be a scam, too. I don't know.

As for the Maingate Clarion. I like it because it is an older hotel (recently cleaned up), but the standard room are huge compared to today's hotels. There is enough food places right around it. You can even get on Disney property without getting on 192 if you drive out the back exit.
