Sometimes you have to read things as asarcastic remark. Sometimes on this site we like to make things up because we can. When it is serious you can tell. especially someone who says "from a reliable source" and ends the post with something outrageous. Anyways welcome to the boards my friend....

One forum member answered correctly. The Boxes are going to be (actually already are now ) speakers. The photos are a few days old the speakers have been put in in the last few days. These types of speakers should be popping up all around the Magic Kingdom for guest satisfaction as all the guests could SEE the WISHES night time spectacular, however, you could not hear the music from around the park. Therefore, Disney put these in as an answer to guest complaints. I am sure, however, that they will play more area music in the daytime.

If that's the case, it's kind of annoying that they aren't hidden in the foliage or as props, unless they will be themed in the near future.

Okay, so as much as I hate pointless speculation... I'll bite. These things just look way too temporary. If the concrete things have been there a long time (they look like it), and if light poles were there before (which would make a lot of sense), maybe they are simply adding new light poles? The box on top is made of plywood, for goodness sake. Seems like it would be a good temporary cover for whatever light pole wiring and base that would be exposed to the world without a nice box covering it up. Furthermore, the first photo shows a similar piece of plywood covering the side of the concrete base, which seems to me like it could simply be an access panel for the wiring.

I think the camera idea has been debunked (shots wouldn't be that thrilling, movement isn't regular enough to be able to produce reliable photos, wrong side of the fence) and I'm just not buying speakers, considering Disney can easily hide speakers better than this and there are no holes for the sound to come through...

Looks very likely. Although I think they'll put some kind of fence around the cameras, I can just imagine some smart@$$ putting their hands in front of the lense to ruin someone's photo.

Edit: Hmm, need to start reading the entire thread before I reply. So their going to be speakers, good...

Sigh.. i already posted a pic of what the boxes were for in my MK update, and even on this very thread people have stated that speakers are already in-place, but here is the pic showing that they were for speakers:

It is in fact a photo system. As a way to enhance revenue, Mr. Eisner has ordered that a photo radar system be installed. Anyone caught by the photo radar exceeding the posted speed limit of 3.5 MPH will have their picture taken by the cameras, and a ticket with a fine will be sent to your resort room.

Heck, if it works for the state police, why not WDW?

good news for those who dont like the speakers...I just got back from the hurricane ride out crew and the mesh covers are gone with the wind and I am sure something got ruined with the wiring because one of the bottom panles are gone and filled with water...yea...if I ever see another sandbag in my life it will be too soon.

Hmm, I wonder what idiot in "Strategic Planning" bought the speakers with mesh instead of metal covers. ugh. That's why Disney has rules about QUALITY. Well, they used to anyway. Those speakers should have been fine in this storm.
