I looked for this on other posts, but could't find anything.

Has anyone ridden the Indy ride in DL?
Can you give a description of the ride? Is it awesome, or just OK?

Yes....I've ridden the Indy Ride (many others here have too).... :)

My opinion on the ride....well....I like CTX more because it faster and in many ways more intense...but to its credit...Indy has many unique effects (where as CTX is more of a sound-darkness-fast ride....Indy has more effects like fire, darts etc) that makes it a ride not to be missed...very nicely themed and an overall great experience...I think its better than OK...more around awesome....

:D

BTW Miami in da HOUSE!!!! :lookaroun :hammer:

I've ridden it, can't remember a thing about it! I have a very good memory but this ride I can't remember anything about. the only thing I remember is standing in the queue, for forever!

Indy and CTX share the same vehicles and ride system, but the comparison ends there.

Indy has the most elaborate cue (TOT comes in a close second)

The list of special effects loaded into the Indy attraction is a mile long. Mist screen projections, falling debris, lava pits, fire balls, and of course several run ins with Indy. The level of detail loaded into this attraction makes it a must see.

Indy may have cost a small fortune to build, but it certainly keeps them coming back for more.

CTX? Help me out. I hate abbreviations.

Doesn't Indy have the same ride system as Animal Kingdom's Dinosaur? Since I've ridden Dino and not Indy, I'd like to hear from people who've ridden both.

Well....it's about time for me to weigh in on this topic, as I have ignored it being batted around this board so often before.

(It's all a matter of poor timing, I suppose, as I just sat down to eat my lunch, and here is this post....SORRY!!! )

First off...CTX is "Countdown to Extinction"..what we now know as "Dinosaur" at Animal Kingdom.

Having ridden and enjoyed both Indy and Dino, let me be the first to say DISNEY CAN BUILD 20 MORE OF THESE THINGS WITH 20 DIFFERENT THEMES AND I'LL LOVE THEM ALL!

There are those who will say...."Indy sux"...."CTX sux"...."They are both the same ride system", BLAH BLAH BLAH!

This doesn't mean they are the same attraction! Anyone who has been on both can tell you they are very differnet and each very much enjoyable in their own right. One is about Indiana Jones, one is about dinosaurs. Take it from there!

They could be completely identical ride systems, vehicles, tracks, and buildings for all I care. They would all be great!

There's more of a "watching an action scene" feel to Indy, while Dino is more of a "surprise in the dark" experience. I happen to like both.

Don't know if that helps you at all, but I certainly feel better.

Whew! Now I can eat lunch!

CTX and Dinosaur are the same ride. It used to be called Countdown to Extinction, then it changed to Dinosaur around when the Dinosaur movie came out.

I've been on both and i agree with most of what's been stated already. The detail on Indy is much more abundant than Dinosaur. I have only been on Dinosaur once, and i noticed how much darker it was than Indy. It was also faster/rougher. I enjoyed Indy better with the creaky bridge, fireballs, giant cobras, and nearly colliding with the huge rolling ball from the films.

The gueue is also amazing. There s a spot where a rope is attached to a support and it hangs below, making it look like people are down in a big crevice. If you tug on the rope, sometimes a sound emits making it seem like someone fell. There are also lots of caves, sort of reminding me of the Dueling Dragons queue at IOA.

I've heard that Indy has "variable" ride experiences.

I don't get this impression on CTX but haven't ridden Indy. If true, how is it that Indy changes each time you ride it?

Have to totally agree with Brer Stitch about these rides...

Ok I haven't ridden Indy-Temple of the Forbidden Eye at DL but I have riden CTX and Indy-Temple of the Crystal Skull at Tokyo DisneySea.

CTX (Dinosaur) and Temple are both the same type of ride vehicle and same track layout... but you'ld never know it unless you saw the building plans.

CTX is very cool in it's own right... great animatronic Dinosaurs, cool meteor explosions and a very edgy feel since you almost get eaten 3 times.

But the Indy rides are just unbelievable. From what I've read the two temples are pretty similar. My experiences are all based on Crystal Skull in Japan but I would put it as the most detailed theamed queue Disney has produced (even better than ToT) though it is a bit gorey.

The ride is just awesome. Creaking temple doors, a shakey rope bridge, playing chicken with other ride cars, giant lizard trys to eat you, blow guns shooting at you, all sorts of creepy crawlies around your car as your headlights just happen to start failing, and a big crystal skull that blows smoke rings at you. But my favorite part has to be the glowing blue green vortex swirling around the temple. :)

Check out a picture at http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/tds/en/e_park/lrd/a_01.html

So the two rides are night and day different. They could easily build an Indy ride at WDW and it would never detract from the people that wanted to ride CTX any more than thunder mountain detracts from space mountain

I don't post much, but thought I would put in my two cents on this one....

I love Indy at DL and try and ride it everytime I go. Like people have been saying, it is very detailed and brings you into the story of the attraction. The queue is possibly the most detailed of any Disney ride (at least in the States, never been to Tokyo and was at DLP right after it opened and was fairly young). When it first opened would give you little cards to decypher the hyroglyphics on the walls in the queue. Someone mentioned the rope that you can pull, there is also a bamboo shaft that if you push will make noises like the roof is falling in on you.

As for the ride....Nothing can beat the feeling you get when turn and see the skull, fire billowing up out of the pit and a car riding in the middle of it on the shaking rope bridge with the dramatic music playing. The sheer size of the ride is what is most impressive to me. The only other current ride, I can think of off hand, that you can see as much around you in a big space is during the graveyard sceen in the Haunted Mansion. There is stuff going on all around. Towards the end with the blow darts shooting past your car is great.

Indy in Tokyo sounds very much alike, but has a few extras like the vortex and fireball.

I would like to see Indy added to MGM, but feel that it will loose some of its queue theming to try and fit the movie studio feel and will therefore loose some of its magic. But I am sure Imagineering can figure out a great way to make it work if they decide to do this.

I will stop now on my long post, sorry about that :hammer:

Oooo VERY good point. Having a 4 story temple rising up out of MGM wouldn't quite look right.

Ok change the rovers to motorcycles and having it running around a pre WWII german castle being chased by bad guys a la last crusade and you can put it in the world showcase at the Germany pavilion. Imagine world showcase's first e-ticket thrill ride.

Ok very sorry if I offended anyone and I'm sure the German board of tourism would never go for it.

Well the temple rising up could be ok, but I feel that the queue would be like you were going backstage and you would see the backside of things and it would be scaffolding and structural supports instead of a full temple that was found in the jungle. It would be probably best in AK, but of course there is Dinosaur. But once again I am sure there would be modifications and it would work well.

This would fit right in over at AdventureLand. Think about it, you've got the jungle cruise and all, the temple in there. I could see, although it'll never happen, but I could see them setting it up to where the Indy ride would be on certain island (Or whatever they put it on) then the jungle cruise could be on the same area, then have the cruise go into the same temple with the Indy attraction in it (Get what Im saying)

I've gone on both CTX and Indy, and I have to say, hands down, CTX is much scarier. I never really felt scared on Indy, but Dino scared the crap out of me! That's probably because it's almost totally in the dark, but also because it just felt a lot rougher than Indy. As far as the theming is concerned, what is all of the hype about with Indy's line? I barely even remeber it. TOT is much better than Indy's line area. If I had to choose between CTX and Indy, CTX definitely...

The Indy ride in Disneyland is in Adventureland, right next to the Jungle Cruise. The Cruise skippers refer to it as Indiana Jones and the Temple of the 2 Hour Wait during their spiel! After they built a Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort they had to paint the outside (back) of the Indy show building with a mural of palm trees and leaves to blend in better because it was too obvious that there was this great big warehouse looking building right there and what the heck was that supposed to be? It detracted from the theming so they had to paint it.
When Disneyland first opens every morning you can see a stream of people heading to Adventureland to ride Indy before the line starts to get long. Even during the slowest times Indy still has a wait. Once inside the temple it is very nice to look at the amazing detail work that they put into it.

I dunno what DL's Indy queue is like but Tokyo's is simply awesome.

You go into the ruins of an Aztec pryamid. you walk into the main room of the temple and it lookz just like a temple ruin excavation site. The roof in collapsed and open to the sky. Water is falling in and the whole thing is over grown with vines and plants. The floor of the main is covered in skeletons. I mean easily 100 skeletons or parts of them are scattered all over the main room as if it where an anceint sacraficial altar or some great catastrophe had happened. The walk way you walk on doesn't look like a side walk or platform but instead looks like bamboo scafolding tied together with rope. You really REALLY have to look to see any of the metal supports that make up the walk as it spirals up the inside of the pyramid.

Then you go deeper inside. The stone block walls have aztec relief carvings in them, back lit by some other worldly glow. you hear the sounds of dripping water, creaking rocks, bats, and strange chanting as if the spirits of the aztec gods were upset you we in thier territory.

then you come up on the explorers base camp deep inside the temple. You see all their supplies, log books, tools, and even an old wind up phonography (playing the safety spiel of course).

you round the corner and get onto your jeep to head to the dig site.

ToT is very well done, especially the boiler room load area and it little subtle details like the old tv show props and the floor directory are amazing. But the Indy temple doesn't have a preshow to set the mood of the ride, it builds up all the creepy spookyness of the environment just from the queue. And it does this amazingly well.

I can't comment on Tokyo Disney Sea's Indy queue, but it does sound and look amazing from what I have seen online. At Disneyland, Indy's queue is amazing too. It is very long because you have to walk, I believe, under the railroad tracks. It is composed of the temple, bat caves, and booby traped halls with spikes skicking out and skulls from people that didn't make it in. As mentioned before there is also a well with 'someone working down in it' and the pre ride film that is shown in one of the rooms is quite funny. With FastPass now you are not able to appreciate and see it all.

I do agree though that TOT's queue is very well done also, but I think for me at least Indy is better because of it is so much longer and therefore able to have that much more in it. I am very curious about how DCA's TOT queue will be? I am hoping it will be like at MGM. It is not built up higher then the surrounding area, so it will not have the same feeling of walking up to it., but can't wait to see it next spring!

The Indy ride is, in my opinion, one of the most impressive attraction at any of the Disney (USA) parks - definitely in the top 3 (with Tower of Terror and Aerosmith in that list). From queue entrance to exiting the vehicle. The overall package is incredible - and no one can ride it just once - which says a heck of a lot.

Dinosaur is great, but it seems like 50% of it is in blackness. Almost all of the Indy ride has visible effects. You really forget that you're in an attraction soon after entering the que. Everyone says how great the Tower of Terror queue is, but it's really quite compact. At least with the Indy ride, there are details to notice based on the films, and not just fictitious details like the Tower, that guests have nothing to compare it to. Indy has a notable trademark to draw from - something that virtually everyone has heard of.

I really hope MGM Studios gets Indy soon. It would really draw crowds.
