Perhaps I have lost my marbles but....Didnt the Indy Stunt Show end with the planes mecahnic being chopped up by the planes propellars? The effect was done with a trap door where he dropped into. Last week he was merely shot by Indy and the ending seemed blah.

well, i think that you might be confusing the movie and the stunt show. i cant remember exactly, but i dont think they would have a person fall into a trap door to which people would think he got chopped up by a plane. i think for the stunt show, they simplified things and did the other ending as you are refering to.

i cant remember 100%. sorry.

Actually, last time I saw the show, I remember the trap door thing described above happening near the end of the stunt show as well. The plane kept going in circles then somehow the 'bad' guy got caught and the blades created smoke from the ground and the guy disappeared.

Now if it has changed to him just being shot, it may just be an alternate ending when perhaps the trap door isn't working properly. Anything can happen in a Live show afterall. Last time I saw Indy, the huge sets used in the first scene wouldn't move on their own, and eventually the stage manager apologized for the delay as the track sensors were not working so they had to take them off by hand (with trucks I believe) and that was what was taking so long. The rest of the show went without a hitch though :)

Doesn't the show actually actually end with Indy taking Marion out of the plane and running away with her just before it explodes?

It seems to be luck of the draw as to whether the mechanic is chopped or shot - I would guess it's all dependent upon whether the trap door is working.

Another question:

Didn't the section with Marion doing the exploding truck stunt used to be longer? I could have sworn they used to run through it twice, blowing the truck up on the second time through, after setting the explosives.
Last 2 times I saw the show...one time around with the truck. :veryconfu

wow, reading some of these descriptions my memory has come back and i do remember the ending with the smoke and the trap door. funny though, i do also remember indy shoting him........................

hypothetical: if the trap door wasnt working, and indy shot him, who is going to get the dead guy out of the way when the plane explodes. that guy would be toast if he was to close. :fork:

I was down there this past June, and the mechanic was sent through the trap door.... but I can't remember ever seeing that happen before. I always remember Indy shooting him.

He is shot in such a location as to fall out of harms way.

You'd also think that if he thought he was going to get caught in the middle of the plan explosion... he'd get up and run away... even if it loses that movie affect.... I know thats what I'd do!

The show has many different variations, to allow for mechanical failures, weather, etc. Having seen it 20-30 times, I have seen at least 6 different variations. There are a lot of changes to the shooting of the truck.

Yeah... you're right Lee...

Real truck with a real driver comes flying around the corner for the "dry-run" take... then during the 'actual' take, real truck drives off fast and the attached truck (to the set) comes flying around the left side of set and does the whole flip-thing.

I've seen the show many times and it's always been the trap door/propeller blade. There used to be enough smoke to mask the guy falling through the trap door, but the last couple times you could clearly see him go through, which ruins the effect.

After that, finds the gun, resues Marion, and they run away before the explosion.

Don't they also reenact the scene where Marion is kidnapped and the crowd parts to show the big guy doing all of the sword tricks. After he is done doing the sword tricks Indy just shoots him. Maybe that is getting confused with the guy who gets chopped up by the plane.

I have footage on video of the mechanic doing the trap door gig to simulate being hit by the propellor - there is a puff of smoke to try and hide the trap door and shreds of clothing are seen flying around, so it does happen.

Trap door worked during the last show on Dec 8. Mechanic fell, Indy shot the canopy of the plane and he and Marion run off before everything explodes.
