Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Not So Spectacular

I've seen the Indy show many times already, but I was very disappointed the last time I saw it two weeks ago. After he climbs out of the pit, the idols with the axes never fell down. I know the first one isn't supposed to fall, but the last two didn't either. After the swap of the idol with the sand bag, the ball never came out. There was a long pause and he was just standing there waiting and they cut the scene. When the sets were being removed I saw that there was a piece of the track missing. In the last scene, the plane almost didn't explode. The fire never made it even half way along the "gasoline" on the ground in front of it to the tanker. They literally took their time escaping from it until someone fired a gun and the tanker exploded. Has this been happening as of lately, or just those few days? Is it happening now and are you disappointed too?

My opinion

I've seen the show countless times and stuff like effects missing happen all the time.

Did it rain? Is an effect broken down? etc. For example, say it just finished raining. They won't do part 3 and after swinging across the buildings in part 2, before going down the pole... they'll cut it. Cause its all wet I guess? They then resume it to when Marion gets kidnapped and will end the show once the jeep explodes.

Other times, the trap door for the mechanic doesn't work, so Marion will gun him down instead in act 3. I could go on and on, but remember this... this show has tons of special effects and they go with what's working! Closing down the show for a day cause 2-3 effects are missing is NOT an option, trust me.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I've seen shorter versions because of weather, but I don't know waht happened this time. The set was dry as a bone. Believe it or not, it hadn't rained for two days. They had the fire and the steam coming out of the doors, they opened, and nothing. The ball just stood there. Just some mechanical malfunctions I guess.

The mechanical problems (?) all occurred on the same set unit; I guess they had issues with that particular unit.

The plane explosions are triggered manually from the control desk; normally once Indy and Marion are deemed clear of the blast it`s fired. Sometimes the burning petrol effect dosn`t make it as far as the tanker, sometimes it dosn`t ignite at all; I was lucky enough to have a view of the desk when the show was 9 months old and saw this happen; the gunfire is used as a `plan b` to pretend to ignite the tanker, much as Fantasmic! has Malificent climb her podium again if the Dragon fails.

Normally rain will scrub the final act if the ground is too wet and slippy.

There are always going to problems now and then with a live show. I don't think that's reason to just close the show and forget the whole thing.

The Indy show still holds it's own without a re-think and definitly doesn't need the boot. With a 4th Indy movie in the works, I only see the attraction gaining popularity. Not that it needs the movie to do that. There's usually a packed theater any how...malfunctions or not.

yeah that needs the boot.

Be careful what you wish for. They would likely replace it with a Meet and Greet (selling photos of course) or a souvenir and/or food stand. :lookaroun

You remember the whole show from when you were 5?? Everyone knows who indiana Jones is, maybe not newborns but thats an exception. And with the new movie it will only revitalize the attention of IJ. I love the show to death but i must admit its a bit outdated, but still worth seeing. And although people dont realize or want to accept it, a ride may be in the works, no one really knows for sure. After all, would it really be that bad of a idea?

i've always enjoyed the stunt show, but would gladly give it up for the Disneyland/Disneysea attraction. for those who've never ridden it, it really is an amazing experience, completely unlike Dinosaur! in almost every respect, videos on the 'net just don't do it justice. i know that a certain member here has inspired alot of jokes towards the ride, but its an experience completely on par with Pirates, Haunted Mansion, or Splash Mountain. Ideally, they could refurb the show and put in the ride, but a lack of space and funds won't let that happen anytime soon.

(omg... i'm incredibly dumb... i just realized the Disney land/sea play on words now... wow)

Truthfully, I remember most of it. From seeing it on old DisneyWorld videos and such..I also remember being bored out of my mind. haha If I want to see those stunts i'll pop in one of the Indy films.

I say keep it, but perhaps switch up the stunts to something a bit fresher...

Another thing to keep in mind is that this is one of the few remaining "audience participation" attractions left in the world. It really adds a whole new aspect of the show to be picked to be down on the "set." I was picked on a recent trip, and it changed my whole perspective of the show. On the down side, It made me miss Superstar theater and the sound show even more...

Maybe not, but not all WDW guests are kids, nor should they cater to them.
