In Defense of the Stroller Pushers

I just returned from 10 days of pushing a double stroller around the parks and the reason people are getting hit in the legs so often is because they are morons, plane and simple. I never realized how often people have their heads buried in their phones or are looking right and walking left. The next time any of us gets hit by a stroller, ask yourself what you were doing. I had one person, head buried in their phone walk straight into the front of the stroller. I saw them coming, stopped and put out my hand to stop him dropping onto my kids. This was a full grown adult. Another beauty was the guy looking right and walking left who fell over the front of my stroller which was once again still as I saw it coming.

Now my mom can be considered one of the terrorist stroller pushers but the only time she hit someone was intentionally. As we crossed the street before a parade people were blocking the walk way. This guy was asked to move by a CM twice and said he had nowhere to go...with no one behind him. so my mom ran over his leg. Life Lessons.

Even without the stroller the amount of people who can't manage to look where they are walking is unbelievable. IF we were to bury a shoulder into a few of them it might change things. Or maybe my bitterness comes from working in a college where no one has looked up from their screens in years, not even when crossing the road and not after 2-3 kids get hit each year. Natural Selection I believe they call it.

That was just my experience, but i generally pay attention to what I am doing. I did see some people rally car racing through crowds with their strollers and scooters, so yes there are some real winners. But I have to defend the generalizations as I could have hit many people if i hadn't stopped walking. By simply walking in straight line I could have hit probably a t least 2 people a day.
You can't call people "morons plane and simple" if you don't know the difference between "plane" and "plain".

That's as far as I got. The irony stopped me dead in my tracks.
uh oh, the grammar police are out in full force. And I'm the moron. hahaha some people need a life. When you have no argument, fight for grammar!!!!

Again I will say it. At no point was I defending all stroller pushers. At no point was I blaming all people without strollers. This is what we call an observation, not an argument. However as usual people have to make it into a personal argument. As I said, I didn't hit anyone. If I had said I hit people because they cut me off, I could understand the personal attacks because hitting people on purpose is dumb. As is not watching where you are going, with or without a stroller. Not sure what is so hard for the angry folks to understand.

You can have whatever opinion you want as long as you are not screaming "moron" in the same sentence where you prove that you find the English language challenging.
I do know that the spelling was wrong, I don't generally go over my posts to see if every comma is in the right place or every word is spelled correctly. but hey as long as you feel better.

I don't know if it's the time I go, or what, but I have never seen anyone intentionally get someone with their stroller or scooter. Or go barreling through the parks with a stroller/stroller, thankfully. Most seem to be well aware of their surroundings...or at least smart enough to veer off to the side when looking at their phone, camera, maps or having to stop the stroller. The only time we did have any issues were people who would walk DIRECTLY across the path of my MIL in her scooter (replaced hips, knee and rod in back). She did her ABSOLUTE best to avoid ankles, shins....however the blatant disregard for her presence there was unnerving. People would walk their kids and families RIGHT in front of her or cut her off...KNOWING she was there.

I DO dislike the sea of strollers sometimes....especially the walkway between IASW and PPF, but I have just accepted it comes with the territory at a place like WDW and don't figure I have any less of a right to be there with kids than the person there without! :)
Isn't it sad that you have to justify to everyone on the message board why your MIL was in a scooter just so you don't get attacked and your mother in law is called lazy? Or if you have a stroller you have to state up front your reasons for having one? Trust me I can't wait till the day I dont need a stroller to go WDW or anywhere else. And no one has a goal of being in a scooter.

You're the only one who sounds angry.....but I guess since you started a thread, bragging about how you run people over with your stroller, it makes sense that you might be angry.

This debate is pointless. It will never be resolved, and both sides of the argument "stick to their guns" so vehemently that they refuse to acknowledge the simple truth of the situation. It does not matter if you push a stroller or don't. If you (not you Cesar R M) fail to watch your surroundings then it is you that is the careless one. This is one of those arguments that gets out of control just like refillable mugs, ECV's, pool hopping, etc... Everyone in this discussion is so certain that they are right and everyone else that disagrees is wrong. Honestly, I expected it to be shut down on the first page.

And the best part was I didn't start it to turn it into a raging debate as to which side is right. Apparently you can't tell people what you observed without a full on fight these days.

Or without overusing the word "moron"....

So I was right you didn't read my post. I mentioned countless times that I did not hit anyone. I would stop when I saw them walking in front of me without looking. Why would i want a grown man or woman falling onto my kids? Maybe before attacking you could read the whole post and not one misspelled word. I also mentioned that I thought the lady running through people was wrong. Wow you attack me for misspelling a word and tell me I purposely hit people and came online to tell everyone about it. Read people read.

SO you don't think people who hit others with their strollers on purpose or don't watch where they are going are morons? What would you call them? Inconsiderate? Conceited?

I think like you, they're imperfect.

And I do wonder, if you're spending all this time watching others, just how much attention are you paying moving your own stroller? Best not to dwell on that though; you wouldn't want to consider yourself as part of the cacophony....

It is impossible to make it through the parks with a small or large stroller without hitting someone by accident. A percentage of guests never pay attention to what is going on around them and the increasing number of guests who have their noses stuck in an iPhone or iPad is only increasing. Just a reflection of our changing society, you can decide if it is for the better or worse.

Interesting. What I found is that when my kids were young enough to be pushed in a stroller, all the regular pedestrians were imbeciles that would aimlessly meander into my path whilst reading their "palm pilots" or whatever, doubtless under the influence of a myriad of illicit substances. However, the first time we went stroller free I was shocked to see how quickly the tables turned. Nowadays, it is clear that "stroller pushers" are either out to take out ankles or are merely lost in a haze of baby formula and sleep deprived neuroses as they mindlessly careen around WDW pushing their lazy blobs of useless adipocytes from one ride to the next. Really, the rate and magnitude of the change in people's behaviors was shocking.

Hopefully one day I can be perfect like you. This has to be the most ridiculous of your argument's yet. Why was I spending so much time watching others? So I wouldn't hit them with the stroller. Wow. How can I be part of a problem if I didn't hit someone and explained the the only reason I rented a stroller, mid trip, was because my son was sick?

You know what? I think I will remain imperfect because if you are perfection, I will pass. Not sure why the personal attacks are happening when I believe we are of the same opinion, but whatever fills your day.

Don't worry one day those lazy blobs will grow up to be in scooters and run you over.

What personal attacks? I simply noted that these so-called "morons" (your well-used phrase, not mine) are as human as you are. My apologies if your expectations are higher than that, but genetics can be such a burden on us all....

And yes, if you're distracted by others while pushing a stroller, you're pretty much on the same plane as them. Sorry to disappoint....

This debate will never end. Everyone needs to pay attention, plain and simple. I DO think people with strollers sometimes use them as a way to push past people in the parks. Same with ECV's. Add in people who are checking their smart phones at the same time and there's bound to be a crash or two of fifty! I know I am guilty of checking my phone for our next FP and have almost run into people. I always say "I'm sorry" or "Excuse me" when it happens. I would NEVER do it walking down a crowded Main Street. People need to use common sense with checking their phones. Step to the side and do it, not while you're walking through Fantasyland. Heck, I don't push a stroller and I've even been run into by people too busy checking their social media accounts as opposed to watching where they're going. If I notice someone is going to run into me, I give them a swift hip check and a "watch where you're going!!". That gets their attention pretty quick (sadly it doesn't do much because 2 second later their eyes are already glued back to their phones)

People with strollers and ECV's also need to use common sense. You're manuevering something that could possibly hurt someone if you hit them hard enough. Just because YOU are pushing a stroller doesn't give you the right to move people out of the way with it. When there are crowds, everyone is trying to get through, not just you. EVERYONE just needs to watch where they're going.

On a total side note, I never understood being buried in your phone at the parks. I can't tell you the amount of kids I've seen that are 10-12 years old playing on their phones the entire wait for an attraction, or through an entire meal. This younger generation has become WAY to dependent on cell phones and video games to keep them entertained. If you're going to just play on your phone the whole time, why not just stay home?

At what point was I distracted? As stated above, I was watching people so I wouldn't hit them. And if I did need to check my phone while pushing the stroller. i pulled off to the side. I guess being considerate of others and intentionally trying not to hit them makes me an idiot. Weirdest argument ever.

Guess the personal attack argument went by the wayside....

Of course, simply trying to be considerate of the "morons." Now that's a curious spin....
