In an alternate universe where Soarin' opened in tomorrowland, would people still like it?

Would have people cared about this thematic fit?

This is more of a theming question then a ride enjoyability question. If soarin' opened in tomorrowland somewhere and dca never existed, would people be angry about it not fitting thematically, or would they not have cared at all?

I don’t know which option to vote for because I think Soarin’ would have been a great thematic fit for Tomorrowland.

Best option in that case would be no, they would have never cared.
Curious, why do you think it would have been a good fit? Is it because of those circle vision films?
I must be the only person who thinks it would be an awful fit if the ride was thematically the same as it is now, which is just one big warehouse.

It's a good fit in 1967 Tomorrowland. One that's focused more on science and the world. That's why it works well in Epcot.
I was thinking more modern tomorrowland for this question or 90s tomorrowland, but yes it would have been perfect in the 60s-80s.
I think soarin fits epcot for different reasons, I think it fits well since epcot already has many circlevision tour attractions and since the attraction flies over land, it fits the land in that way.

Soarin Over California, IMO, was the spiritual successor to the big speed tunnel type rooms in 'If You Had Wings' at WDW (and also the Circlevision films elsewhere). So in that regard, it would have fit in very well in the earlier days at Tomorrowland there. (Sorry for the awful grainy quality... hard to find good footage of this.)

That's a good question. If Soarin' were opened in Tomorrowland, I think the larger focus of the land would shift towards the environment and conservation. Personally I'd love to see a Tomorrowland that focused on the real issues we're facing.

I think it would be popular but could have a different theme. Ive never thought about it before but the ride sysem would make a great platform for a tour of the cosmos kindof like a,planetarium on steriods that would have been an idea fir for tomorrowland or old style Epcot

They could have a section on why Disney hotel maids only make mimimum wage and how Anaheim's mayor should be recalled because he won't let them build a new parking structure.

"Soarin' Over California Presented by Southwest Airlines" would have been a huge hit. The public wouldn't care about the thematic fit. The only people who would complain would be the people on this forum. If it replaced Innoventions, even the complaints here would be tempered by "but at least it's a step up."

Personally, it's enough of a callback to Circlevision-era Tomorrowland that I'd have no problem with it. It fits just as well as Autopia and the Nemo Subs.

It speaks to having something new and innovative(assuming this is its first placement) in a land that is in need of such things, so I'd bet that it would be a hit. This would mimic how Soarin' was the best attraction in a park packed with meager offerings when it first opened. Realistically, that contrast was a huge boon to its popularity. It's also worth remembering that Soarin' opened before theme park screen fatigue set in. Even so, passholders love anything new and I'm sure the ride would do just fine today.

Personally I'd love to see a Tomorrowland that focused on the real issues we're facing.

To be honest, I think of Disneyland as a place to brush those issues aside for the day.
