TNG is so inherently flawed when it comes to the concept of Riker ever commanding the Enterprise. There is no way on earth he could swing his leg over the back of the captains chair and clear that charming wood panel console behind it.

Don't know how that would prevent him from being captain. For some reason Frakes did it to show Riker's swagger, even though it was because of a back injury. Not sure how that is suppose to show swagger, but hey its TV just go with it.
