first of all the bad news

i was informed by an extremely reliable source that Carousel of Progress will be retired permantley, i had to ask twice cause i didnt want to belive it

good news

a new fireworks show starting at the magic kingdom soon is going to be the same as the Belive there's Magic in the stars fireworks at disneyland only with different name and music

That's absolutely horrible news!

I sincerely hope that your "extremely reliable source" isn't as reliable as s/he seems...

COP is the one, the ONE attraction Walt told his Imagineers to NEVER replace... And all this talk of permanent closing is really disheartening, but most of all, angering me...

I very much hope that COP will be around for a long time to come.... It's bad as it is with the limited schedule COP follows already, but a permanent closure is very very bad sounding...

Wow that news sounds like the news we ahve heard like every few months for a few years now. Gosh I am so upset and worreid that I will never get to see it again....oh like the next busy holiday weekend. Till they tear it down I will not believe anything.

Whether or not kookie is wrong or right, DOES NOT give you the right to slam or flame anything he's posted. Please try to control yourself when you post in the future.


As for the original post, I would imagine the "reliable" source of this info is simply a CM, and as we all know, there are a ton of CM's that like to think they know a lot, when they actually don't. And those seem to be the same CM's that are always the source of this type of info.

As a total outsider I find the emotions and angst over COP very interesting. I would miss COP, and have missed it when it has been closed during my visits. I will find it enlightening to follow this thread through and see how long COP lives on. At least the poster didn't "spam" us with a web page ad and get banned.

Will CoP be missed? How many visitors that go to the park actually go there? Yes it will be missed by the fans and enthusiasts like us, but to the average guest, it probably wont be missed. The space that CoP takes up is quite huge, Disney could do something else with that land or building, there is also the skyway station near by too..... if this rumour is true, do you think something new maybe built. These empty buildings can't remain for ever.

As for your other bit of news, the new show will clearly be unlike Believe...There's Magic in the Stars. The only similarities will be that they both involve fireworks and have their own theme music in addition to famous Disney music, like most Disney firework shows (excepting Reflections of Earth, of course). We already know that pyrotechnical effects will literally surround guests in this show, which is not the case in Believe...There's Magic in the Stars, where all fireworks come from either behind Sleeping Beauty Castle or to its left (anyone who has seen it knows what I mean--some effects are behind the castle, and the others are shot off far behind and left of it). Check your sources. Disneyland is also getting a brand new show in 2005, so Believe...There's Magic in the Stars, as good of a show as it is, is on its way out the door to be outdone by these two new shows (assuming Disneyland doesn't pull a Light Magic...no flaming Tinker Bells, please!)

We've spoken to someone in Disney Media Relations on behalf of the Unofficial Guide, and they've told us CoP isn't being retired. YMMV, of course.
