Has anyone else seen the new IMAX version of Beauty and the Beast? I know it doesn't come out till January 1 but a lot of theaters had like, one or two showings of it already...I'm just wondering :)

I have it in one, about 15 minutes away. Plus I know some people who work there (Like, 2) Because I go there a lot with my school...And plus I'm really outgoing and just walked up to them and started talking :D :D :D

Is a 43 year old's opinion worth anything here?
Anyway, here goes.
I have only seen BATB once, on video, and all my other experiences have been with the stage show at MGM, so I was quite keen to see the movie on the big screen, and, boy, was this a BIG SCREEN:lol:
In some ways, the movie was a bit disappointing in that the graininess of some of the backgrounds was obvious, and also in some scenes where there was rapid movement, it was hard to follow the action.
However, despite that, it was still a great experience, and well worth the $10. Also, the big set scenes were definitely well done on the IMAX screen. Finally, although it takes little to bring a tear to my eye, the emotion of the movie definitely came through to me at least.
Well done.
Now, what's next - The Lion King? Tarzan? It also makes me annoyed with myself that I missed Fantasia 2000!:hammer:

Exactly..I was going to say that bigger doesnt mean better.

I HATED the imax version..the only thing making it bigger did was show all the sketching mistakes and age of the film...

Disney should try and release something new to the Imax. I know Fantasia 2000 was new and really good (even though I didn't see it in Imax) but it also was a sequel. Why not do a computer generated movie and start and Imax business. They have the imagination they could reevent Walt's True Life Series.

Well..because it wuoldnt make money. there are only 100 "Disney qualified" Imax theaters out there, and thats not enough to bring in the kind of money it takes to do a whole new feature film. Fantasia only got done because they wanted to do something special for the sequal...and it flopped.

I personally could care less about I-Max..id rather save 8 bucks and watch a movie at a real theater...

My parents hated it, too. They said they got dizzy because of the big-ness (is that even a word? ), but they're old so it shouldn't matter  I didn't find anything bad, but then I wasn't really looking

I'm not saying new feature length movies should be made but educational films like Walt's True Life Adventures that fit into more than 100 theaters. Like the other movies that play at the Imax usually but with a touch of Disney magic.

BatB almost was nominated for Best Picture. The only animated picture so far to be nominated so on the 10th aniversary they decided to do something "special" but it really isn't since they are releasing Lion King next year.

ok, I'm a real B&TB fan -- own the movie on video, saw the Broadway production twice.

my dd's are intersted in seeing it in IMAX, so we'll go. it should be fun.

I dug this topic up rather than start a new thread...

I just saw Beauty and the Beast in an IMAX theater last night and I really enjoyed it. It was only $10 and well worth it. The sound was tremendous and, though some of the flaws in the animation were more apparent in this version, there were parts of the film that were absolutely breathtaking. For me, it felt like I had escaped into a WDW attraction for an hour or two.

I also saw the preview for the Lion King and it looks tremendous. I'm definitely not wasting anytime seeing this one when in comes out in 2003. :)

I still haven't seen it and Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Fairytale *grr*. I was supposed to see it last weekend but traffic was hell and we ended up missing it and saw The Sweetest Thing instead.

I think my boyfriend and I MAY end up going tomorrow since the IMAX near here is not showing it much longer and because the Universal Citywalk IMAX is stupid and has it only playing at times that are hard for us to get to. Actually I"m more looking forward to the music than anything else lol.
