There's several books out there about/by imagineers. Amazon.com is selling the 1988 Walt Disney Imagineering : A Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real for $20.96. It's probably in many local libraries as well... along with similar books about WDC history and culture.

If you'll forgive a reminder of what you very well may know, the work of an "imagineer" is accomplished by a team --- some full-time cast members and some specialists brought in for a particular project. Ray Bradbury took a break from his sci-fi authoriing to write the original script to Spaceship Earth. His prose was unmistakeable "on this wave of inspiration, we sailed into a new century..." In the various 'rehabs' of SSE, there's been several script revisions as well but in many places the original Bradbury imagery remains.

Then there are illustrators, model-makers, engineers, computer programmers and more working on a project team.

Definately a great creative environment, but I would make a case for many other backstage roles at WDW... other types of projects that are likewise fascinating. Marketing, Finance, Operations (which of course is onstage as well), Engineering (keeping the magic working!), Information Technology... even something like Foods Management... planning menu changes that fit a theme. How about Entertainment... recording the soundtrack for the next parade? Or working in Central Shops, assembling audio-animatronics?

All of the above is intended as encouragement. Definately go for the WDI role if that's what you want. At the same time, you may want to keep your options open for the many other great careers out there.

My mother got it for me when it first came out at the Disney Store. It was my big gift, she told me it better be good, cause she spent 50 bucks.

I wanted to be an imagineer forever, then I realized it is a select group and I'll probably never get in. Then when I was a mover we moved tons of offices, so I want to be a SUIT. I'd still like to be an architect, I would like to think those 4 years of drawing and architecture classes in HS weren't all for nothing.
