I never seem to get off my...grant. Always lying around on my grant.

The best thing I remember from my night shift days was having breakfast for dinner. Day people have drinks after work. We had eggs! And boy, do I remember that days changed at midnight! Nobody but those who have worked night shift understand how important that is.

Blergh, with schoolwork and a bar job I think Im nocturnal too. But hey on the bright side by becoming nocturnal youre lowering your risk of any sun related illness!

I've been off my grant since January and waiting for NJIT to let me know if I have funding for June...I've become an insomniac in the mean time...I feel your pain, for once I'd just like to have a long, solid nights sleep.
What field is your grant in? And has the neighborhood improved at all I remember a desk flying out of a window of the HS across the street in several pieces!

I was working with the USDA and Sea Grant with Dr. Michael Peek doing beach grass assessments and finding the phenotype that was the most resistant to Jersey since we use a Massachusetts variety even though we have our own. If you google it there is a lot of info on it and a few NJ12 and NBC news links to some interviews we have done.

Everything was rolling then Sandy happened....we lost a lot of funding because apparently people know what is best for the shore and their homes based on what the money in their pocket has to say and not what scientific facts point to...the project is still going, I was just the oldest postbach on the project and had done a significant portion of the work to the point where the rest was simple. It didn't really make sense for me to stick around while people combusted plant samples for composition.

I'm trying to get NJIT to give me funding for research into heat island effects on phenotypic plasticity, and/or identifying phenotypes that correlate with specific CO2, temperature, and light levels (in a climate change kind of way even though I use climate change with a grain of salt.

Newark used to be a jungle even when I got my first degree there over 10 years ago...I mean it's improved, but at the end of the day it's still Newark...the bottom line is, my fiancee makes a boat-load of money so we're trying to get my science done up here so we don't have to walk away from what she makes...but if science causes us to relocate, than move we shall...

Happy 4:51am nocturnals!!

(Why does my office seem haunted at this time of night? Way too quiet both inside & outside. I feel like Jack Nicholson is gonna poke his face through the door any minute and say: "Heeere's Johnny!" )

Cool thread, Yert3. I did 7 years on the nocturnal shift, then went to days for almost 23 years. Since retiring and moving to central Florida, I have gone back to work and became a creature of the night, once again. There's a totally different breed of people out and about in the dead of night.
