I'm going to Casting and I want A Professional Job... Help!

I'm headed down to the World in a few weeks and I am going straight to Casting. I have put in at least 50 applications online but, I have not received any reject letters from them. I graduated a couple of years ago with a Masters degree so, I'm not eligible to do an intership.

Problem is, it's not possible for me to start at the bottom and work my way up. Currently I am the sole provider for my family since DH is staying with the kids to offset the cost of daycare. So, in order for us to survive I would have to start out making what I am making now or... If they hired both DH and I and paid a little over half of what I make to each of us then we could afford childcare. OK, so I know that I'm rambling but, I want to work for Disney and I want to start now!

Do any of you have any suggestions about going to Casting and what I should bring, where, say, etc...

Thanks

Don't go to casting looking for professional work. They will immediately refer you to the website. Your best bet is to try another company, to provide you with a salary while you try to network with people within WDW that are in the position to look at your résumé. When you submit your résumé over the internet, you are still being judged against internal applicants, those who already know someone, and everyone else... so it is unlikely to hear back.

Thanks for the suggestions.

So, my next question is are any of you on the inside? If so, can you take my resume to the big cheese?

lol... you're welcome

There are people here on the inside, but it won't be likely you'll find someone willing to take your résumé.

The strategy I posted is the one taken by most of the people who I know are higher up on the inside. The other ones worked their ways up.

I'd have to agree on taking the inside track when looking to work for the Mouse.

I rode in on the coat-tails of a former co-worker, who gave me a good recommendation to a job opening that I didn't know existed. :D

This was for a position working at the Team Disney building (not too far from the Casting building) doing software development. The job was likely posted through various head-hunter agencies, but those types of jobs don't go through the general Casting building.

However, that is all long ago in my career (only worked for the Mouse for one year about 10 years ago), so your mileage may vary.

Out of curiousity....why only a year?

Was it for personal reasons, or was the job not all you expected or were hoping for?
The specific technology I was working with at the time is an extremely small niche market, and Disney decided to move away from that technology about a year after I joined the project. :(

So, rather than take a hefty pay cut to work on other projects they had using different technologies, ended up leaving Disney and finding a different project using the same technology up in NC.
