Illuminations

Where is the best place to see Illuminations?

Years ago, like in the early 2000's, I remember seeing Illuminations from the back of the park, between Germany and Italy. There were benches up by the lake and we sate there. Is there still benches there to sit and watch the show? Is this a good spot? I know England is considered one of the best spots by Rose and Crown, but I am not even going to try for that or by Mexico.

Also, how long do you need to camp out for your spot. I think we sat down on the bench, like an hour and a half before the show. I thought it was a good spot because you were close to the bathrooms and you could trade off and wander if you got bored waiting and sitting.

Pretty much anywhere is good as long as your view isn't blocked by the isles in the water. Also, last I knew the benches you speak of were gone. Disney loves removing places sit lately. The time you camp out depends on crowd level at the time of your specific visit. Have fun!

My favorite place is R&C having a late dinner and then not being part of the rush to leave EPCOT after. Barring that between GB and France is another place we enjoy

There are still some benches around. Ones that come to mind see by Germany, and between U.K. and Canada. Though they are bound to be occupied very early in the evening, and may not be the best place to sit anyways as people will get in front of you right up to the railings.

We enjoy staying near Showcase Plaza area - less congestion to deal with after the show is over.

There are good viewing spots all around the lagoon. The most important thing is knowing wind direction. You do NOT want to be downwind, or smoke and ash can be a problem. We've found that the closer you are to Showcase Plaza, the bigger the crowds are. The Germany site is our favorite, but if you're there early enough, there are a couple of really good spots outside of Canada.

A lot depends on crowd levels. We never stake our spot more than 30 minutes before the show. But we don't go during busy times, either.

What are the best places to hear the music from lluminations?

I have noticed some areas have better sound quality & volume than others. But being the visually orientated ape I am, my memory stores which places have the best visual rather than auditory experience. Now, with Illuminations impending departure (and my impending torching of TDO's headquarters), I would like to enjoy the music a few more times.

After spending many years camping out at various places some with seating and many without I no longer do that. Good spot if you want to wait is on the bridge between England and France. Most places from France around to Germany have good viewing spots but as another posted said watch out for the islands in lagoon if you are wanting to focus on the floating globes travels.

With the increase in crowds it became more trouble than it was worth the commandeer a spot only to deal with the last minute folks who squeeze in around you. I always let small children in front of me whenever I can.

My new favorite spot is the wide open plaza area in front of Japan. Some minor blockage but there are low walls to sit on if waiting. When the fireworks start we move to an open area , stand back and look up. After all, that's where the real action is. If someone moves right in front of you and you don't want to deal with the hassle there is so much room in that open area you just step to the side and continue to enjoy the show. Side benefit, the beer/sake kiosk comes in quite handy. I would not put too much focus in landing the perfect spot. You will enjoy the show more if you don't spend an hour or more protecting the ideal spot and just enjoy the beauty in the sky.

Late dinner at Teppan, entire park heads to the entrance after Illuminations, we go eat, and wander out leisurely ;) Shhhh don't tell to many people!

*edit, if crowds are not thick anywhere is a decent spot to view. Heavy crowds ... get to the open areas early..
