I saw Illuminations last night for the first time in a couple of weeks

The holiday tag is now playing.....and is the same as last year (which is a good thing)

Anyway.....they have added some additional laser effects (using the American Adventure laser) to somewhat replace the inferno barge parts.....which is probably a good sign the inferno barge is not returning anytime soon, if at all.

Keep in mind if visiting, Illuminations plays at 9:30 until 12/30

Thanks, speck.

Guess this means a new barge may be on the way - if it does return; surely the damage would have been repaired now (i.e. it has now been found it`s easier/cheaper to start again rather than fix it)

All we need now is a video... :D

I've seen photos of the inferno from a few days ago. On the surface it looks undamaged. Obviously there are problems remaining, otherwise it would be running, however, it certainly doesnt look to be damaged to the point where a total rebuild is required. Epcot guest relations are talking about a January return.

Last I heard, they were still deciding to rebuild it, or just scrap it and wait for the re-design of the show.

either way....the new laser effects are nice.....

the fire from the barge is too bright....it would kill the effect

Quite true, perphaps the lazers followed by the inferno barge! Or I'm dreaming. I wouldn't mind the barge being toned down a bit, I like it but sometimes it produces too much smoke and the slightest breeze can ruin the show for part of the audience. Ofcourse I love the show, and if the new lazers are looking good, it seems any future versions of the show will be promising.

They've been doing the additional lasers ever since the barge went down in September. On a separate note, one of the same kind of lasers are on eBay right now for a couple thousand.

Who needs it?

We just saw Illuminations about 6 times between November 11th and November 19th, and have seen it with the barge numerous times in the past two years. It is one of our favorite things at Disney World.

The power of the inferno barge at the beginning is certainly overwhelming, but it is still a tremendous show without it. The people in the crowd who had never seen it never missed it, and I didn't really miss it either.

By the way, isn't it a bit strange that Disney claims to be environmentally friendly while having employed an inferno barge that gratuitously caused a huge amount of greenhouse gases every night just to make an explosion effect. Not that I'm against it, I'm just pondering.
