Illuminations: Rose and Crown vs FP

It is a bit of a family tradition to eat dinner at the Rose and Crown, timing it with Illuminations. This trip will be a little different in that we are adding a 2.5 year old to the mix. We are going to be doing this the last night of a 10 day trip. It looks like Illuminations is at 9:30, so we are considering an ADR between 8-8:30.

Is the reserved viewing area for the restaurant a good view if we don't happen to get seated at a patio table? Would we be better off eating an earlier dinner more similar to the toddler's typical schedule and using a FP for Illuminations? Basically if we will get a good view either from the table or the reserved area at the restaurant even if we are seated inside, then I think we will keep the ADR. If there is a chance we might not get a great view I might consider using a FP for it.

If it makes any difference this will be the first time seeing the holiday tag since we are going in December, which I have heard is amazing, so I want to make sure its a good view!

If you don't end up timing it with dining, I personally wouldn't use my top tier fast pass on illuminations. We go every year and have always had perfect viewing spots from a wide range of areas without any issues getting them. I don't feel the fast pass area really gives you any advantage as far as being able see everything well. If there are any other rides you would possibly like to use that top tier spot on, I feel it would be better spent there.

Since this is a long trip, and we are doing Epcot at least 3 other days in some capacity I would be ok with using a FP for this. With our toddler we can also use FP/rider switch to our advantage as well!

Have you thought about the dessert party? Great View, Great food and plenty of room for a toddler to wander or to stay in the stroller if sleeping, we have done it for the last 2 years and plan on doing it again this year as our boy uses a wheel chair and he gets a great uncrowded view and he loves the food (not all sweet) the only down side is we have to stand but the Sparkling wine helps :)
