IllumiNations question

Not sure if this was ever discussed, but I've noticed that along with the new changes to ROE you can now see the previously unseen shells ascending after being fired. This is especially obvious for the orange peonies during 'Home' as well as other times throughout the show. Is this due to the lack of the ALF system which I assume is still down? And more importantly, if it is, will this go away after the ALF returns? I remember reading somewhere that ALF allows a shell to be fired without leaving a trail, and I've never seen these shells making their ascent in all the times I've seen ROE. Not that this is a big deal at all, but it was nice not knowing when or exactly where the shells would (pop). It always seemed to surprise the crowd which made the show it a bit more exciting.

It is a combination. The problem relates to a lack of timing chips for the Air Launch System. Basically Disney ran out and are having issues producing more.

Interesting. I don't know about anyone else, but after years of watching ROE I'm looking forward to seeing these new effects in person next time! It will be nice to see the timing spot-on the way it used to be. And I've noticed the pyro blasts from the barges during the art/music sequence are bigger, brighter, different colors, and much more impressive. I can't tell you how many times I would see only 3 out of 4 of those fire, combined with no overhead shots to accompany them. To have everything working as properly as it seems to be has me extrememly excited to get there to see it!!

Sadly, it's a case of no stock, and internal issues at Disney, not the suplier, in not having any more.

To the OP, ROE has recently had some effects swapped for different types of pyro and the timings have been tightened. Aside from ALF and lasers the show seems to be looking newer than ever. Well, since 1999 at least.

One aspect of the OP's question that I think got missed is that the ALF system only fires the opening comet and bursts. All other shells during the show are traditional lift charges.

So if you're talking about changes in the visibility of the rising shells later than the start of the show, those will not go away if/when the ALF system returns.

Thanks Rob. I was a little confused on that. Looks like maybe it's because they are using different fireworks in most of the show after chaos. Maybe that's why the shell lifts are so much more visible now.

By the way, what is "the OP"?

Right, the OP specifically mentioned the shells during Home. The rising tail effect has nothing to do with whether the shell is air launched or not. Those specific shells have a black powder lift.

I don't think those shells are manufactured with a tail effect but rather the burning of the time delay fuse is visible externally for some reason. It may be the exterior of the shell burning from the lift charge as well.
