Illuminations has small changes.

I am an Illuminations Refelctions of Earth Nut! I know every second of the show and have seen it more times than I can count. I have it on video from 5 different places in World Showcase Lagoon.

Now this weekend I noticed several slight differences that many would not notice.

It seems that they have stronger fountains for the water. At various points throughout the show the water is much higher than it ever used to go. They may be the same fountains just turned up higher, but I did notice it. I noticed it about a half hour before the show when they tested it.

Also, there is a point in the show where there are several bright orange fireworks along with several very bright white fountain fireworks. The old scenario was that the white ones were very very high and the orange ones were about half the height. This posed one problem, the white ones are not that large and when they're high they seem small. So, they have made changes. The orange ones are now the high ones and the white ones are very low, low enough to even fountain into the water in the lagoon.

I also noticed more colors in various finale points of the show.

I know these are rediculously small and nearly un-noticeable to most but I had to say it because it's my responsibility as a WDW Nut!

I am guessing that those white fountain type fireworks were changed because they were often being pulled from the show in windy conditions. With the new lower versions, it may possibly mean that they can run them even in windy conditions, meaning a more reliable show. :)

lasers

I also noticed a slight variation in the lasers. They are slightly different and more noticeable than before.

Miami RoE Nut right here......

Well I cant say that I know what color is each firework....so that makes you the biggest RoE nut....but I am a nut in the sence that for about 10 years since the regular Illuminations....and then Illuminations 25 I have been a major fan. I know when a firework should exploed....and when it miss fires. I also have them old shows on videos. Still watch them today.

Weird as this may sound, I dont have any video of RoE. I guess because my moms camcorder (which i used back then) is dead. She has not gotten a new one and I dont want to buy one since I wouldnt use it other then one time for RoE.

I go to WDW 5-6 times a year and everynight i end it with RoE. I love the music....the meaning behind the show. I also have a book on RoE. Its a great show and just love it.

My favorite place to watch the show is at the main entrance to world showcase. I sit and face US and have Spaceship Earth behind me. Great view and closest spot to feel the fire and fireworks above ya.

I just hope Disney keeps this show going on for a few more years so I can get a camcorder from someone to get my own copy of RoE.

Was there for 4th of july and had little bad luck....in the middle of the show the wind blew my way.....so i was under smoke Not a great moment...but still enjoyed it.

Going back in August......cant wait.

Thanks for the update!

This trip I plan to get shots from many angles and when I get home I am going to import the sound file of Illuminations ROE and take down the audio on the video and sync them together. Then I am going to edit the video so it shows ROE from tons of views. One view will be from Rose and Crown Pub, one from the reserved area in Italy, and I think one from the San Angel Cantina in Mexico. Then in case I dont make it back to WDW for a while, i will have it all on video.

I also believe that during the past years, different colors have been added. OK, probably old news, but I thought it was interesting.

"Pumpkin orange" is one of the color names. It's all so...beautiful. :dazzle: :D

Globe Working?

Out of curiousity, does the Globe go out often? We saw Illuminations this past June 8th and that night the globe was not working properly. Only parts of N. America and Africa were actually "working". Without the video display, it seemed to really affect the show. I assume that this was just a one night thing, although very disappointing to us as this is our favorite nighttime show and was our only chance to see it this time.

Hum... they might have had a relay problem betweent the video screens and the control until.?.?.?...

I am sure it was a temp. problem and has since been fixed.

Problems

I can only assume that problems with such a complex show is normal. I have seen the show where the audio does not work in the area I am in...yet i hear it far away. I have also seen it when the Fire barge does stops working. Fire works also might fire when they shouldnt.....it can happen.

But I must say that 95% of the all the shows I have seen....all work out just fine.

It is very reliable, LOL although I do remember a rather unfortunate failure. During the early days of RoE, they had a preview for Michael Eisner, and they had a total failure of the globe, just a few random pixels were lit. Thats what can happen with all new technology! :)

I absolutly love ROE. Especially the ending with 'We go on' the show has a really great story and meaning behind it especially in todays world. Its just a totally unique show. I hope they keep it forever!!

Dumb question I know but I've always wondered, when they do Illuminations are the fountains, fireworks, lights on the buildings etc....all set on automatic timers and controlled by computers or are there guys controlling everything by hand (pushing the buttons at right moments) and hidden away somewhere?

It's all a computer controlled time-coded sequence. Each event is timed to the milli-second, from the fireworks, fountains, lasers, lights and even the music. :)

The lighting is either run by a Whole Hog 2 board or an ETC Express or Expression. All using a DMX 512 link to mostlikly a ETC Dimming System. This can be synced with music via a MIDI control unit. The entire lighting system can also be run via palm pilot if they are set up with the remote system made by a company like Cisco.

I wonder how often the ETC Source Four cans have to be replaced. I mean sitting up on the roof like that in Florida weather is a killer!

Globe Control

I have a question I hope someone who REALLY knows can answer.

I have a book on RoE which states that the globe is guided by lasers across the water to the middle of the lagoon. Someone in another forum saids that someone actually sits inside and drives it. Once they are out in the water......they sit inside and watch TV and wait for the show to be over.........inside the bottom of this globe.

Can anyone shine some lite on this????

Thanks
