Illuminations enhancements

I have no proof, but think illuminations used to be better, with more lasers and more fireworks, especially more of those little white things that lit everything up. I might be wrong.

There was a cut a few years back in the amount of pyro used in both Illuminations and Wishes.

The laser issue occurred during the switch to RoE in the late 90's when they went for color. They severely lost power.

Thank you for confirming my nagging idea! I knew it!!

I thought I saw rumblings about Illuminations having a 5000th performance fairly soon. (could be internet rubbish) Any word on any special events for that if true?

Steve, you know a lot about the show but that's not exactly true. Quantity can vary from month to month or even day to day but it has been almost untouched since the show's debut. This excludes any temporary removals made. What has been removed are several comets from the finale of the show, but they were replaced with four extra 4" shells. The finale used to have only 12 shells for a very long time, now it has 16.

What luv is talking about are the candle balls. There are normally two sets of 40 shots on each Maxi barge and one set of 40 shots on each mini barge. However, I have seen only half of these at times, most recently in February. You may have seen it on a night which had fewer of them.

As for lasers, I watched this year's 4th of July show and the tag had the most incredible and visible laser programming I had ever seen.

I believe the cuts in RoE were made in Oct 2009, the same time that cuts were made in Wishes to reduce costs. I believe we have threads here from the time documenting the changes - although they were fairly small, somewhere around 30 shells from Wishes and a similar number from RoE.

We also lost shells from Peace on Earth and HalloWishes.

Wishes I know of but as far as I know and was told, ROE is the same. Regardless, it's absolutely unnoticeable hahah.

Add Holiday Wishes to the list. Again it was around 40 shells removed from there. HalloWishes had over 100 shells/comets removed.

Indeed. And the inferior lasers are well documented.

Illuminations is one that holds a very special place in my heart. Every-time I see it live it literal brings be to tears mainly because its the sign that my day at Epcot has come to an end. The whole production is just amazing and I sure will be watching to see how this rumor all plays out. I'm interested to see what type of enhancements could possibly even be added to the show. This is one rumor that I hope comes true someday.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought I'd note an actual change to RoE. The lighting choreography for the pavilions during the Celebration segment has changed. Whereas before they sort of faded and shimmered they now flash in succession, similar to how they did in previous versions of IllumiNations. An improvement overall in my book.

Also, there is a new closing announcement.

Youtube video showing the change starting at 2:43 (not mine, BTW):
