Trip Report I'll Never Grow up!-April 2016 Trip Report

Hi! So I'm a bit nervous...this is my first trip report actually being posted after browsing the forums and reading these for almost 7 years now. But we had the trip of a lifetime and I put so much planning and thought into it that I thought it would be really fun to share it finally, given how much I myself love reading the trip reports.

We just came back from the most amazing eight days at Disney World! I couldn't believe that after over 400 days of counting down the day finally came to go to the most magical place on Earth and from there the rest of the trip was nearly perfect.
Since I'm new to this specific thread, I thought I'd introduce our fun little family!

Cast and Crew:
Me!-A.K.A. Danielle, I just turned 18 and am graduating this year and heading off to Penn State in the fall! I'm probably the biggest Disney fan in my family as it's literally all I ever talk about. My favorite character is Stitch and my favorite princess is Mulan :)
image-163.jpeg

Victoria-my 14 year old Ariel obsessed sister! We don't get along all of the time but managed to go the entire trip without getting into too many fights ;)
DSCN0022.JPG

Mom (A.K.A. Andrea)-If I told you her age, she'd probably find out and kill me! My mom is a saint for taking us on this trip! She's the most amazing woman I know and her favorite thing to do is say "watch the closing doors!" when we're in Disney! As you can imagine, she's the woman who has memorized the spanish monorail directions. Her favorite character is Tink!
DSCN0224.JPG

Dad (A.K.A. Pete)-unfortunately dad is a big deal for his firm [PWC] and is a managing partner for the Long Island office. It's busy season for him so he won't be taking this trip with us, but he'll be with us in memory! He'll make a few brief appearances in the trip report. Dad has an awesome Goofy impression!

So that's our family!

Before getting into the details, I guess I'll briefly explain the title! I'm the biggest kid at heart, even if I'm only 18. Going off to college and having to do adult things scares me and Disney is one of the only places where I can comfortably feel like a little kid again. So my goal this trip was to make like Peter Pan and go off to Neverland! :D It's also my last Spring Break trip with the family so it's very bittersweet for all of us [even if dad couldn't be there physically].

Where we're staying: Polynesian Village Resort! We're so excited because it's our first time!
When: We stayed from April 23-30. 8 days packed full of fun and adventures

I hope you guys enjoy the trip report and I'll try my best to update regularly and make it entertaining [hopefully?!] As soon as I get my iPhoto issue with exporting my photos sorted out within the next few days I will get the trip report started.

Day Two Continued...

We got to Mexico and headed right to the pyramid; I could feel the air conditioning calling me in! I wanted to take my mom to La Cava Del Tequila so she could get a margarita because they're her favorite but the line was absolutely crazy so we just browsed the shops and then literally walked right onto the Tres Caballeros. It's been a long time for us, and it was mom's first time and we all really enjoyed the ride.

Afterwards mom grabbed a margarita from La Cantina but there was this group of obnoxiously middle-aged adults who weren't with children who were drunk out of their minds! They were all screaming and one guy was doing what he called "gymnastics" and was flying around on the barriers that separate the lines. He almost kicked me in the face multiple times so we moved over.

DSCN0406.JPG

We had a nice conversation with the cashier about Mexico, telling him we visit every year, sometimes even twice, which made him so happy to hear. After mom grabbed her drink we browsed Germany and Victoria found her favorite pickle Christmas tree [which I'm still baffled by how she remembered it was there!]

DSCN0446.JPG

At China, I saw a line to meet Mulan, my favorite princess who I've been dreaming of meeting forever! Victoria was too hot to stand out there and was getting hungry so mom decided to try to find a snack while I waited in line. I watched the amazing Jeweled Acrobat show while I waited. Finally it was my turn and I wasn't sure if I would cry or squeal, or both! She was so amazing! We talked about traveling, Mushu and his shenanigans, and birthday cake. I was absolutely bouncing with excitement.

image-141.jpeg

I wandered around China afterwards while I waited for mom and Victoria who found a snack in Japan and then had run into some old friends from dance. When we met back up, mom had a glass of champagne in her hand and I grabbed a strawberry oolong tea slush from China which was nice and refreshing, but I had to scramble for cash because their credit card and magicband machines were both not working.

We continued to walk a little, going to Africa and then Italy. Victoria had bad blisters on her feet so they took a seat while I browsed Italy. I met a lovely Italian CM in one of the shops and then I watched the Italian Flag Throwers. The show was very cool and I got a picture with all of the performers at the end, and they all joked that I was a young girl surrounded by many eligible Italian men, which made me very lucky! :p

To be honest, I don't think any of them were even close to my age!
DSCN0482.JPG

Afterwards, Victoria and I made a wish in the fountain [it's something we have to do whenever we see a fountain!] and then we began to walk back towards Norway. We checked in at Akershus at 6:45, 5 minutes before our scheduled ADR and were taken in shortly by a CM named Hans! Not the real Hans of course but he was so funny and the way he talked reminded me of Oaken from Frozen! We took a picture with a beautiful Belle and then were seated.

EPCOT_NORWAYDINING2CHAR_7668367493.jpeg

Our waitress Liesel was phenomenal and so sweet. We made our way to the appetizer buffet and sampled a bunch of different things. We loved the smoked salmon, cucumber salad, and cheeses. Shortly after the 4 other beautiful princesses walked out. We first met Ariel, then Snow White, then Cinderella, and lastly Aurora. We discussed human things with Ariel, our mouse ears with almost all of them [they were a huge hit with the characters all trip!], and singing lessons with Mr. Owl with Aurora. After we met all of the princesses our food came out.

Victoria with her favorite princess at last! She was bouncing in her seat the entire time

image-124.jpeg

Mom had the pan-seared salmon, I has the traditional kjottkake [Norwegian meatballs], and Victoria had the Fiskesuppe, which was scallops, shrimp, and mussels. Our waitress made us try to say the food in Norwegian before we could order which was hilarious, and she said I was amazing accurate. Everything was delicious!
The dessert then came out which was a platter with a rice pudding, an apple cake, and a tart chocolate mousse. We enjoyed everything except the rice pudding, only because we're not huge fans of its texture. I even got an Elsa cupcake and a birthday card signed by all the princesses, and our waitress wrote "Happy Birthday" in Norwegian! Dinner was absolutely perfect and it was an amazing first character dining experience [or at least our first since I was like 7 years old].

Mom was getting grumpy and tired and Victoria's feet hurt so we had to leave much to my disappointment, but it was 8:15 and it was a long first day so I agreed as long as I got to wander the shop in Norway first. We took one last PP in front of the illuminated ball and then the fiasco getting home happened!

EPCOT_ECENTR1_7668468852.jpeg

First we went to the bus stops because we were afraid of another monorail incident happening like it did in the morning but we were told once we walked all the way over there that there were no buses for the Poly. So we had to go back into the park to get to the monorail, and they made us go back through security. Of course we were the only people even heading throughs security since it was almost 9 which was park closing and they had nothing better to do so they chose us
all for random screening! Then we got on the monorail to the TTC and accidentally got on the express monorail to the MK so then we had to get off and take the regular monorail all the way back to the Poly.
When we finally got back Victoria and I went to the beach because it was now 9:30 and mom went to bed. I found the perfect lounge chairs smack in front of the castle and right on the water to watch Wishes. It was absolutely amazing but this rude family kept talking extremely loudly behind us which made it very hard to hear the already soft music. We got back and I absolutely passed out around 10:30, with an alarm set for 6:30 AM for the next day for the Magic Kingdom!

Total Miles Walked: 10.06
Second Day Summary:

Bad: the monorail fiasco
Good: riding Test Track twice in an hour
Surprised by: how much we loved Akershus!
Today I tried: meeting Mulan
The Result: a dream come true!
In One Word Today was…hot!

Here it is! I'm hoping to get Day 3 finished before next week begins because life then starts to get a little crazy before I graduate high school!

Day Three!
Monday, April 25, 2016: The most magical place on Earth...is here!

For some reason I woke up at 5:30 and couldn't fall back asleep so I journaled a bit and played on my phone until 6:30 which was when our alarms went off. Our plans were to make it to the Magic Kingdom for the Welcome Show at 9.
I was set and ready by 7:45 so I headed down to the lobby and just wandered around while I waited for Victoria. She came down around 8:05 so we just decided to bring breakfast back to the room. Victoria got some cut up pineapple and I got the children's oatmeal, which was great as it was only $5 and came with cut up fruit, turkey bacon, and a small drink too.

We were out of the room by 8:30 and found out that the owner of our dance studio was at Ohana with her family for breakfast so we stopped by to say hi. We chatted for a bit which put out the possibility of seeing the MK welcome show but that was okay because we got to see her which was really cool! On our way to Ohana we noticed the line for the monorail was wrapped around the second floor because the line was apparently down so we decided we'd just sprint down to the boat and made it just in time. Apparently nobody else had that idea because there was only one other family on with us which was really nice. It was a relaxing little ride and we made it in just after 9. The lines to get in were absolutely crazy!

It took us 20 minutes just to get to the front of bag check. We finally scanned our bands and walked in, taking our picture in front of the train station.
DSCN0566.JPG

Then we walked onto Main Street and I tried so hard not to cry when we saw the castle. We took a quick PP and watched the Springtime Trolley Show and then made our way to the castle.
MK_MSUPTOWNJL_7668628112.jpeg

I saw Cinderella's wishing well and while Victoria and I were making our wishes Anastasia and Drizella walked by right to the side of the castle!
We ran over and were third in line somehow. The line ended up being huge once people caught eye of them because of course they're a fan favorite. They were absolutely hilarious, and Drizella loved mom's sunglasses and wanted to put the crystals from them on her dress!:p

It was extremely windy behind the castle if you couldn't tell!
MK_CINDERELLAFNTNCHAR_7668634582.jpeg

Victoria joked that there were two trashy things in this picture...I couldn't figure it out until I realized that there was only one trash can in the picture! :arghh:
image-110.jpeg

We then headed to our first FP which was meeting Ariel but the wait was only 10 minutes so the CM told us to change our FP and just walk on. I was able to snag an 8:40 PM BTMRR! We love riding it at night! We met Ariel and she was wonderful, and of course Victoria was absolutely starstruck by her favorite princess. Ariel was really jealous of the mini dinglehopper on my hair bow!

MK_GROTTOACHAR_7668649794.jpeg

MK_GROTTOACHAR_7668649796.jpeg

Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a 10 minute wait so we walked right on and sang the entire ride. As we were about to head out of New Fantasyland because I had grabbed a return time for Peter Pan earlier with my pass, we saw Gaston and I literally sprinted over to the line without even thinking. He was everything I dreamed of! He told us that he planned on having a surprise wedding to Belle tonight but that we couldn't tell her because she didn't know yet. He then called out to random men and asked them if they ever had a surprise wedding and if forcing their wives into marriage was really something that was considered bad  It was such a fantastic interaction and we kept snickering because we knew we'd have to tell Beast about that tonight at dinner.

Gaston giving us a smolder of his own
MK_GASTONSTAVERNCHAR_7668676451.jpeg

We were then off to Neverland! I never get used to that feeling of awe when it actually seems like you're flying. After that we walked onto Philarmagic, which is another favorite of mom and mine.

You'd never know Victoria and I got into a huge fight before we took this picture...am I right?!
DSCN0617.JPG

This was my first time seeing this ear hat, and I absolutely needed it, but of course my mom said no
DSCN0623.JPG

Our FP for 7DMT was coming up so while Victoria and mom went to the bathroom I got a return time for Pooh. We approached the queue for the coaster and the line was insane! The FP line wrapped around outside the ride so we were kind of nervous but I don't even think we waited 15 minutes.

We were all very excited to go on!
DSCN0629.JPG

We all loved the ride! We heard iffy things about it but we ended up having a ton of fun. My mom was of course enthralled by all the jewels in the mining scene; real or not she can't avoid them ;)

Still to come...I test the skills of a "telepathetic" monster!

Day Three Continued...

After our ride on the mine train it was time for Pooh, which is one of my absolute favorites! I always scream when Tigger comes up, I can't help it.

Blurry Pooh selfies!
DSCN0643.JPG

We hopped off [ha, get it ;)] and mom took a seat while Victoria and I rode the teacups for the first time ever. We were laughing the whole time and could barely walk straight afterwards!

Our tummies were grumbling so we headed to Space Mountain to get a return time and then to the quickest QS which happened to be Cosmic Rays. Mom and Victoria had grilled chicken sandwiches loaded with stuff from the toppings bar and I had some much craved chicken nuggets and fries. I swear, there's nothing better than Disney fries! We were so surprised by how expensive the food was though...it was $40 altogether and Victoria even had a free cup of water instead of a drink.

We wanted to let our food settle before riding Space so we took a nice relaxing ride on the people mover and then Victoria and I went on Stitch.

DSCN0668.JPG

Victoria and I love the Peoplemover!
DSCN0671.JPG

As much as I love Stitch as a character, that ride is truly awful. We couldn't tell the entire time if the sound wasn't working right or if it was supposed to be that way. It was just a mess.
We then headed to Space while mom found a spot in the shade. She used to love the ride but unfortunately she fears now that it will wreck her back if she tries it. It was a great ride and I didn't sit in the back so the turbulence didn't kill me. Although, Victoria and I were very disappointed to see that the moving flat escalators after the ride were broken. It turned out that they wouldn't work for the entire duration of the trip!

I grabbed a return time for Buzz and then we decided to try Monsters Inc Laugh Floor for the first time. We were a bit skeptical that it would be very kid-oriented but then the coolest thing happened...I was chosen to be part of the show! I was part of the "tele-pathetic" monster's act! Everyone was in absolute stitches, the show was so funny. We all really enjoyed it and found it a hidden gem.
It was then off to Buzz and I was on a mission to get Galactic Hero. I unfortunately didn't but was just a few thousand points shy of it.
Gotta love the look of concentration! Victoria must have had her eyes closed the entire ride because her score was horrible! ;)
MK_BUZZLIGHTYEARRIDE_7668993765.jpeg

Our FP for Haunted Mansion was coming up so we made our way behind the castle and stopped for some pictures in front of another wishing well.
DSCN0650.JPG

We saw the Fairy Godmother was taking pictures where Anastasia and Drizella were earlier but Victoria was starting to get fed up with character meets and we still had a whole week of vacation to get them done :arghh:

We loved HM as usual, but I wish that Disney would figure out a better way of organizing people once you get out of the stretching room. Everyone just clumps together and starts pushing and shoving because the nature of people is just to be rude unfortunately. The three of us got separated so many times because of rude people that we ended up just walking to the back of the clump because we didn't even care at that point. I just didn't want to get trampled! Outside of the ride we took some cute PP pictures!

image-104.jpeg

The only place I'll ever trying hitchhiking too!
MK_HAUNTEDMANSIONEXIT_7669034555.jpeg

Victoria grabbed her favorite pickle in a bag from a concession in Liberty Square and I got a sprite to quench my thirst and then we were off to grab a return for Splash Mountain.
This is Victoria's favorite snack in Disney World! Go figure!
DSCN0714.JPG

While we waited we took a raft to Tom Sawyer Island and explored a bit, but it was so hot that we decided to sit in the shade for a few minutes as well. I almost killed myself going through one of the escape tunnels because it was so dark I couldn't see the stairs! I was very close to snapping my ankle in Disney :jawdrop:
DSCN0732.JPG

It was getting super hot so we hopped back on a raft and our driver Pete told us that if he crashed the boat, his name was Bob, and if he did a good job driving, his name was Pete :hilarious: We rushed over to Splash Mountain and got pretty wet, but it cooled us down just like we hoped.
MK_SPLASH_7669124376.jpeg

Afterwards I grabbed a return time for Thunder Mountain and we decided to browse Adventureland while we waited the twenty minutes. We had some fun trying on ridiculous pairs of sunglasses at the new Sunglasses Hut and we overheard a woman absolutely screaming on the phone to someone saying she refused to wait on any lines and she wasn't in Disney to be in the heat and deal with people. Well, if you don't want to wait on lines or go on any rides, then why are you paying thousands of dollars to be here?!
She was so loud that everyone in the store was just staring at her baffled.

Victoria and I then made our way onto the Thunder Mountain queue and were on in just minutes, somehow miraculously getting the first row! We had a blast on the wildest ride in the wilderness!

Still to come...Let us pull up a chair as the dining room proudly presents...your dinner!

Day Three Continued...

Our 6:15 ADR for Be Our Guest was coming up so we made our way over to New Fantasyland and sat outside Gaston's Tavern for awhile while Victoria grabbed a cup of water. At 6:10 we went to check-in and were seated around 6:20. We played around with an adorable little girl in a Belle dress while we waited on the bridge.
Our first sights of the master's castle!
DSCN0767.JPG

Why does it look like the gargoyle's giving me a dirty look?!
image-102.jpeg

It was very exciting to be back in Beast's castle again because it's so beautiful. We were seated in the middle of the ballroom next to an adorable older couple who were celebrating their 29th anniversary. The wife loved talking to me about her 21 year old granddaughter and her dating life; it was so cute.
DSCN0787.JPG

For appetizers Victoria got the potato leek soup, mom got the garden salad, and I got the french onion soup. All were great.
I love the french onion soup! Just give me another bowl and I'll eat that for dinner!
DSCN0790.JPG

For dinner mom got the sautéed shrimp and scallops, Victoria got the mussels, and I got the grilled strip steak. We all ended up enjoying mine much more than the other two, but my french fries were a little over-salted.

For once the food pictures actually exported to my computer!
DSCN0793.JPG
DSCN0794.JPG
DSCN0795.JPG

I was the only one who got dessert and I got the lemon merengue cupcake which I was craving since our last visit here. They also gave me the grey stuff which we all had some spoonfuls of and I also got a birthday card from Belle and the Beast, which I thought was very sweet!
The lemon merengue cupcake is probably my favorite dessert in Disney World!
DSCN0798.JPG

The grey stuff was not as good as I remembered though. It definitely tasted more artificial than having the sweet cookies and cream taste with a different texture than last time. We browsed the castle a bit and then took our pictures with the Beast, who was quite the gentleman!
After dinner, mom headed off to the hotel and Victoria and I were off to explore the park by ourselves for the first time ever! We were very excited to actually spend some time together, and we also couldn't believe our mom trusted us to roam the park by ourselves! I guess she truly believes I'm an adult now!
MK_BEOURGUESTCHAR_7669296372.jpeg

Our first stop was the Storybook Circus. We walked right onto the Barnstormer just for fun and I had to scold Victoria not to scream like a lunatic because she was going to scare the little kids! We somehow ended up getting the first row for this too and I felt bad and wanted to offer it to the little girl behind us but she was a little scared so I held back.
After that we browsed the Big Top Circus gift shop and walked over to Adventureland. I got a return time for Pirates and then we went on the Magic Carpets of Aladdin, another first for us. We were surprised when we got totally soaked by the camel within the first three seconds of being on! We hadn't even risen all the way in the air yet!

After that we still had some time before Pirates so we walked around a bit and then Victoria found out that a few Youtubers we watched were in Adventureland too, as they'd just posted a snapchat with a fan. There was an event called Playlist Live going on in Orlando that weekend which was a huge convention for Youtubers so a lot of them were visiting the Disney Parks today because it was the last day. Right as we were talking about them, they passed by!
Victoria was too shy to approach them so I just said we should follow them and see if they were headed to the same place as us and a few seconds later they stopped with a fan so Victoria and I introduced ourselves.
We chatted with Niki and Gabby [they're two beauty gurus] and took some pictures with them. They were so sweet!
Unfortunately Victoria once again managed to close her eyes in every picture with the Youtubers!
image-98.jpeg

After that we were a bit starstruck as we headed to Pirates, and it ended up that they headed there too with the rest of the Youtubers they were with, just a few boats ahead of us. This time we got the last row which we were okay with because I had read about people getting their feet soaked from the drop but we ended up getting splashed and further soaked by a cannon.

Our final FP for BTMRR was ready after our ride with the Pirates so we headed on over. The ride was absolutely crazy in the dark to the point where we were flying out of our seats! Thank God for lap bars!

Still to Come...Will we make it in time for Wishes?!

Hi everyone! I sincerely apologize for the lack of posting, I didn't realize how crazy busy I'd be in the last two weeks of school! But I'm finally done and I graduate in two weeks so I have an entire summer before I have to go to college.
To make up for my absence, I'm going to try to post a few more updates today and hopefully get to the end of day 4!

Day Three Continued...
We wanted to get to Main Street for Wishes but the parade was going on so we had to loop around the entire park all the way through Tomorrowland to get there. We made our way through a giant crowd with hopes of getting to the Confectionary because it wouldn't be a Disney trip without a candy apple.
Victoria immediately picked out the pink Minnie Mouse apple for us to share and a CM offered to cut i up for us and told us to stay put while she did so but she was taking forever. We realized she must've forgotten about us and we were sitting in the middle of the Confectionary like lost puppies for fifteen minutes because we didn't want to be rude. We ended up missing Celebrate the magic which I was a bit disappointed about and we didn't want to miss Wishes too so I just went up to the counter and they cut up a new apple for us.

We couldn't believe how big this Rice Crispy treat was!
DSCN0853.JPG

We got the pink apple!
DSCN0854.JPG

On our way back up towards the castle we snacked on it before realizing how messy it was and how difficult it was to eat on the fly so we ended up not finishing it unfortunately. It's always a fun experience getting one though!

We got the perfect spot for Wishes right to the side of the Castle but unfortunately these rude cheerleaders pushed us over and stepped in front of us during the show and this man had his kid on his shoulders recording the fireworks with an iPad. What is wrong with people?!

The castle is so beautiful at night! I could stare at it forever
DSCN0877.JPG

image-95.jpeg

After Wishes we beelined over to Tomorrowland and saw AstroOrbitors had a five minute wait so we hopped on line. We ended up waiting 25 minutes to actually get on the ride though because it's so slow loading. I hadn't been on the ride in a long time and I absolutely hated it! I felt like I was going to fall off of the rocket the entire time and I ended up just sitting with my head between my knees the entire time.

We were planning on leaving afterwards because it was 10:40 but Buzz had a five minute wait so we walked right on! I didn't do as well as the last time and Victoria claimed her gun was broken again, but I think she just has horrible aim and doesn't want to fess up to it ;)
You can tell we were very concentrated!
MK_BUZZLIGHTYEARRIDE_7669442475.jpeg

We took some quick PP pictures before we headed out for mom!

MK_PREPARADE_7669443158.jpg

MK_MSFIRSTA_7669446589.jpeg

It was then time to head out as it was almost 11 but every single line to get out of the park was ridiculous! We waited on the resort monorail line for 20 minutes which wasn't horrible but I felt like a can of sardines once we were on the monorail! We didn't understand why most people on the monorail took the resort one when they ended up getting off at the TTC because they weren't staying at a Disney resort so they should've just taken the express monorail and let the people staying at the resorts get on this one

We finally walked into the room after 11:30 and could barely keep our eyes open! Mom was absolutely snoring and I almost wanted to crawl into bed without putting on my pajamas!!!
And that was it for a very eventful day 3! I couldn't believe how much we got done and how tired I was. The question was...was I going to make it through the next day without falling asleep on a bench?!

Total Miles Walked: 11.62
Second Day Summary:

Bad: the rude people at Wishes
Good: meeting so many characters
Surprised by: how much enjoyed 7DMT
Today I tried: staying until the park closed at 11 PM
The Result: exhausting!
In One Word Today was…busy!
