Nov 16, 2023 (Reuters) - Walt Disney (DIS.N) will host a company-wide town hall on Nov. 28 to discuss future projects, according to an internal memo from CEO Bob Iger.

The event will take place exactly a year after Iger hosted his first employee town hall upon returning to Disney as chief executive.

Film division head Alan Bergman, parks chief Josh D'Amaro, ESPN's Jimmy Pitaro, and Dana Walden, who leads the TV business, will also join Iger in the discussion moderated by ABC News anchor David Muir, according to the memo, which was seen by Reuters.

The talk will focus on "future building opportunities" at Disney, the memo said.

Disney is facing declining television ad revenue, a movie box office that has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels and a streaming business that has yet to turn a profit.

Iger has told investors that the company is evaluating options for dealing with those challenges, including whether to sell its television business.

It is also actively seeking partners in its ESPN division, though Disney plans to retain ownership of its sports brand.

I’m guessing he’ll share his view on the quality of recent Disney film releases, which, if expressed here, would get him called all kinds of names.
Iger at the very least is an expert wordsmith. No shot he comes out and says it like you are describing here.

He may say it in a “business friendly” way. As he did in the last shareholder call.

What is truly terrible is that they called it a Town Hall, and by definition, it was not that.

It tells you all you need to know about the leadership and why the company has gone the way it has gone.

Yep. It absolutely shows strong leadership on the part of Iger. He made it a point to show up in person and address some of the concerns directly related to the people he was addressing in person in New York. This was Iger, addressing the value and hard work of the teams most impacted by the current uncertainty and giving them a vote of confidence.

Except that is not a Town Hall.
