Iger to choose his successor soon...

At least staggs visits the parks from time to time, after all he ushered in the mine train rather than the princess greet. I say Staggs.

He also gave us the Dumbo circus in the middle of a classic European motif.

And you will still be getting the enhanced princess M&Gs. They will just be added at a later date. This style attraction will only get more and more popular. Have the wait times for Belle diminished much even after the "Hall" opened?

He wouldn't hesitate to invest in the parks. Because he would recognize the potential of them.
I was thinking about that myself. I wonder how he would behave as CEO of Disney. Would he invest in the upkeep of the existing parks and bring back "SHOW" to the forefront again over Efficiency, realizing that SHOW is what made the Disney image. Or would he be more short sighted looking for the immediate dollar over long term loyalty.

From what I have seen he does not cut corners and is not afraid to invest. I think of all the names I have heard so far he would be the best choice. Disney could use a dynamic leader after Iger. Not a criticism of Iger but a change of direction could work wonders.

My one compliment to Staggs is he did improve the standard of food in the parks. (At least at Disneyland, not sure if anything happened at WDW but I would imagine it did).

If he really wants to leave a legacy, he should get Leave a Legacy to leave.

Try saying that quickly 3 times...
My wife and I have our honeymoon picture in leave a legacy and would hate to have it removed. But I will give permission to do that after we are gone. We like to see it every time we are there, all three trips.

Donald Trump as CEO?

#1 - renamed Trump's Walt Disney World
#2 - Gaudy gold every where
#3 - All hotels become ultra-premium resorts for the super elite
#4 - animatronics of himself everywhere
#5 - A princess beauty pageant
#6 - A reality show in which Meg and all his other new minions compete within the parks to keep there jobs

With the exception of #6, no thank you.

To be honest I'd take it, #6 makes the rest worthwhile.

I have met Tom Staggs and had a nice conversation with him so I hope it's him so I can say I know the CEO of The Walt Disney Company!

Was that the first time you went to wdw?
Yes that was the first time we went to WDW. But we had both been on each before. I went with a friend in 1987 and she went with her mother in 1988. We now go three times a year and maybe when we retire we will go even more often.

"Jay knows how to talk to Wall Street. But Disney loves their leaders fit and healthy. It’s also part of that company’s lore that Michael Eisner plucked Bob Iger from obscurity because he looked good in a speedo."

One thing I've noticed about Staggs is that he apparently never had braces. His teeth are noticeably imperfect, especially when viewed from an angle or the side. (Buck teeth, and unevenly spaced throughout the uppers)

I wonder what his upbringing was like? Perhaps very modest beginnings or a family that struggled with finances? Maybe he was raised as a boy in Europe? Most middle-class Americans have had braces since the 1970's, and Staggs is barely 50 so fits that demographic of widespread braces and teenage orthodontia.

They could always move the leave a legacy stones to a different spot. I understand the sentimentality towards it if you're picture is on there, but they look like funeral plots. It doesn't work anymore in front of the icon.

Further down in the article it says:

"Jay knows how to talk to Wall Street. But Disney loves their leaders fit and healthy. It’s also part of that company’s lore that Michael Eisner plucked Bob Iger from obscurity because he looked good in a speedo."
1: Tom Staggs was the CFO before Jay Rasulo. Rasulo also has way more experience in the travel business.
2: Bob Iger was a high rank executive throughout the late 90s and even Michael Eisner's COO. Eisner has big money invested in Disney, I would say the chance of "looking good in a Speedo" being the reason he got picked to run the company would be remote.

Personally I think it will be Staggs and I think Iger sent him to oversee the the parks & resorts business to get him some experience in what is becoming a bigger part of the Disney pie. With the huge expansions of the cruise line, adventures by disney, DVC, and Shanghai project, as well as carrying out the DCA expansion, he has had his hands full. Iger and Staggs have always seemed to have similar, level-headed personalities and considering the company has been firing on all cylinders, even during periods of economic turmoil, the board is not going to want to change direction anytime soon.

I do think the one thing Staggs struggles with is how he comes across in public appearances and interviews, if he is going to be CEO of the company he needs some training on that. I'm sure he is well-intentioned. but he clearly doesn't want to say the wrong thing. and as a result seems very nervous all the time. There is a bit of a bridge to gap there if the one thing the public sees is the one thing he's not good at, but that can be managed and trained. Eisner wrote in his autobiography about how much he hated being on national TV introducing the Disney Sunday Movie because of how nervous it made him.

It's amazing what they can do quickly with veneers. It happens all the time with politicians.

Maybe we should start a Staggs Dental Watch - when it happens, it will be a strong indicator.

All joking aside (and I plead guilty about leave a legacy), the comments here are very enlightening.

In other words, Iger all over again.

First, classic list! Great job pulling that one together.

IMHO, while it would be a horrific act for a company like Disney to do and with Father's Day just minutes away, I'm going to go out on a limb (admittedly a thin one) and vote for #5. Sure it objectifies the princesses and sets a bad example for their many little female fans, but come on, hosting a Princess Pagent after hours as a hard ticket (no pun intended, really :D) would be a better way to use the castle stage then some of the shows I've seen the past years.

Oh yeah, CEO. I'd love to see Lasseter as well, but realistically I thinks it's Staggs purely from the type of press and events he's been positioned at.
